What Is It Like to See Opus Kink Live?
A Brighton six-piece with a saxophone and a trumpet, where a pit has kicked off for a sax solo and the singer finishes the night above your head.
What to Know Before You Go
- 1The horns can start the pit.
At the [Brudenell Social Club](/venues/brudenell-social-club) in 2023 a saxophone solo set off one of the night's most intense pits.
- 2Front row means carrying duty.
Angus Rogers comes into the crowd and gets lifted most nights. More in [Fan Culture](#fan-culture-and-traditions).
- 3Have a sense of humour at the barrier.
Rogers works the front row: cigarettes off fans at the 2026 Brighton launch, Guinness from the bar in [Manchester](/cities/manchester).
- 4A dead guitar doesn't stop the song.
They've played through a snapped bass string and a guitar that cut out mid-song. Stay put.
- 5Learn "Crucify!"
It's the song where the band orders the room to move.
- 6[London](/cities/london) has a named support bill.
GANS and The New Eves open at the [Kentish Town show](/venues/o2-forum-kentish-town), and The New Eves sing on "The Head Tree."

What It's Actually Like
Half the Band Will Be in the Crowd
Don't assume the people on stage stay there. At the Brighton album launch on the Concorde 2 terrace in August 2026, saxophonist Jed Morgans crowd-surfed while still playing, and by the end of "St Paul of the Tarantulas," Brighton Source counted half the band out on the crowd. During Brighton Psych Fest at the Komedia in August 2025, keys player Jazz Pope stared people down, grabbed a tambourine and launched himself onto the audience for "Malarkey" (Brighton and Hove News). Even when they're on the boards they don't stand still: at the 100 Club in London in February 2022, Hard of Hearing watched them twirl around each other, fall at each other's feet, and stop mid-song to huddle around Fin Abbo's drum kit.
A Pit That Answers to the Brass
This is the part that surprises people who know them from the records: the pits are real, and the horns are part of what starts them. At the Brudenell in December 2023, Ben Forrest of the Yorkshire Post watched a pit swallow most of the room by "I Love You, Baby," then asked how many other young bands could start one that intense for a saxophone solo. At Village Underground in May 2023 the crowd stomped in unison "like an army on the march" (Hard of Hearing). At Night and Day Cafe in Manchester in January 2025 it was swirling from song one, with sweat beading on foreheads and walls (Overblown). At the Komedia the reviewer got shoved forward onto the stage itself.
“I completely ruined an entire roll of film just from sheer excitement”
He Cadges, He Roasts, He Rarely Says Thank You
Rogers doesn't do heartfelt speeches. He does crowd work. At Night and Day he kept signalling the bar for more Guinness mid-song (Overblown). In Brighton in 2026 he bummed cigarette after cigarette off the front row, told one fan he looked like Glen Hansard, barked "Fcking hit it" before "Dust" and "Fck Nick Cave" before "St Paul of the Tarantulas" (Brighton and Hove News). Back at Patterns in 2023 he introduced the support acts with "As beautiful as they are; they will all be dead soon" (Brighton Source). One early review, of the 2023 London show, said he barely spoke; everything since has him talking constantly.
Something Will Break, and They'll Keep Going
Gear failure is practically part of the set. At the 100 Club, Sam Abbo snapped a bass string, held the bass up for a new one, and finished on a "maraschino-red" replacement (Hard of Hearing). At the Komedia in 2025, Rogers's guitar died during "Dust" and the band carried the song without it until someone found a new jack lead (Brighton and Hove News). At Patterns in June 2023 they ran into the venue curfew, the power got cut, and they came back out anyway (Brighton Source). Rogers told Clash that at Boomtown in 2022, "We closed the stage and by the end we got taken off."
The Closer Has Moved
Through 2023 "This Train" was the usual last song (Yorkshire Post), and at Patterns Rogers jumped down during it to conduct the crowd (Brighton Source). At the 2026 launch the last song was the slow album closer "Oh, Irony," lighters up (Brighton and Hove News), and "This Train" was nowhere in the set. Covers are few, and they mean something. Shortly after Shane MacGowan died in late 2023, they closed the Brudenell with "Rainy Night in Soho" (Yorkshire Post), and the 2026 launch got a burst of "Edelweiss" sung a cappella. Overblown's verdict from Manchester sums up the rest: "chaos is their MO and chaos is what they deliver."
The Sweet Goodbye Debut Album Tour (2026)
The tour follows The Sweet Goodbye (July 31, 2026, SO Recordings), ten songs produced by Craig Silvey (DIY; NME). It runs club rooms and small theatres through November in the UK, from Bootleg Social in Blackpool on November 17 to Rescue Rooms on November 28, with Thekla on November 25, peaks at O2 Forum Kentish Town on November 26, then crosses to Europe in December, including Paradiso on December 9 and Botanique in Brussels on December 16 (DIY). Earlier autumn dates in Rome, Bucharest and Nancy ran under the same name (setlist.fm).
The Album Comes First
The new record leads. The August launch on the Concorde 2 terrace opened with "Come Over, Do Me Wrong," mixing album tracks like "The Head Tree," "I Have To Shine My Sunday Shoes" and "I'm A Pretty Showboy" with the older "Dust," "I Love You, Baby," "Malarkey" and "1:18" (Brighton and Hove News). Rogers plugged the record from the stage: "Has anyone listened to the album yet? Coz if you have you know I need to shine my Sunday shoes" (Brighton Source). People were already singing "The Head Tree" back. Rogers wore a cowboy hat and dungarees for it.
The Instore Run Showed the Quiet Version
Before the tour proper, the band did a week of "Stripped Back and Sensual" instores at record shops, including Banquet in Kingston, three Rough Trade shops and an acoustic set plus Q&A at The Jacaranda (setlist.fm; Skiddle). The Banquet set was six songs, all from the album (setlist.fm). Even stripped back it stayed physical: at one of the Rough Trade shops a trumpet call opened the set and a small pit swayed, and Rogers left Clunk's reviewer with "UK Kernow jazz punk is on the rise, never forget."
Who's Opening
GANS and The New Eves open at O2 Forum Kentish Town (Live Nation). The New Eves also sing on the album track "The Head Tree" (Piccadilly Records). Support for the other November and December dates wasn't announced when we checked. At the Brighton launch the bill was Kitchen Lover and Lemonsuckr, and Brighton and Hove News said Kitchen Lover got a stiff crowd warmed up for them.
Rooms, Doors and Age Rules
This tour stays small. Band On The Wall in Manchester was showing "Tickets low" in October, with the first act on at 7:30 PM and a 10:00 PM curfew. Kentish Town opens doors at 7:00 PM with an 11:00 PM curfew, 14+ for standing and 8+ for seats (Live Nation). Tickets for the Badehaus date in Germany started at about $34 (mvp.de). In Bucharest, Control Club charged about $14 to $18 and turned away under-12s (Zile si Nopti).
The Verdict So Far
Live reviews of the album cycle are warmer than the album reviews. Brighton Source said they played the terrace launch "like it was a headline show," and Clash called their gigs "party central, and that's just the six-piece onstage!" NME's Lisa Wright was cooler on the record, saying it sounds "like being in a sweaty festival tent half a decade ago." Brighton and Hove News sat in between: a frenzy of circle pits up front, but a finale lost to smoking-area chatter at the back.

Merch
Merch intel is thin: no fan reports on tour shirts, prices or quality turned up. The item to look for is The Sweet Goodbye on coloured vinyl. Cream vinyl LP: $40 (Norman Records, limited edition). Brown coloured vinyl LP: $42 (a US shop's UK import). CD: $17 (Norman Records). Norman Records lists the cream pressing as a pre-order due November 20, 2026, which lands right as the UK tour starts, so the venue table may get it before your mailbox does.

Frequently Asked Questions
A short, sweaty club show from a punk band that happens to have a saxophone, a trumpet and a synth player, all of whom leave the stage at some point. It's closer to a party with a horn section than a gig you watch; the details are in [What It's Actually Like](#what-its-actually-like).
About an hour. The only timed headline set we found, Brighton Psych Fest at the Komedia in August 2025, ran about one hour for 11 songs (Brighton and Hove News); the 2026 album launch ran 14 songs.
After the support acts, inside a strict curfew. At Band On The Wall the first act is on at 7:30 PM and the curfew is 10:00 PM; Kentish Town opens doors at 7:00 PM with an 11:00 PM curfew. We found no reports of late starts.
Better live than on record, by most accounts. Clash calls the shows "party central," and Overblown's verdict from Manchester was "an utter joy to behold."
Yes, especially while they're still playing rooms the size of Thekla and Band On The Wall. If you want a pit with brass in it, there isn't much else like this.
"St Paul of the Tarantulas" and "I Love You, Baby," the two most-played songs of their career (setlist.fm), get the biggest reactions, and "Dust" is the one Rogers yells the band into. From the new record, "The Head Tree" is the one fans were singing back at the launch.
Some of them. The 2026 launch kept "Dust," "I Love You, Baby," "Malarkey," "1:18" and "St Paul of the Tarantulas" around the album tracks (Brighton and Hove News), but "This Train," the old closer, didn't make that set.
New closers and a bigger London room. In 2023 "This Train" ended most nights and London meant Village Underground; in 2026 the album songs open and close the set, and London is O2 Forum Kentish Town.
It depends on the venue. O2 Forum Kentish Town is 14+ for standing and 8+ for seated, with under-14s accompanied (Live Nation); the instore at The Jacaranda was 18+ (Skiddle).
