The stage barely holds him. At the Tinley Park stop outside Chicago in 2025, Shaddix left it during song four, "...To Be Loved," and walked through the seated sections, passing directly by one reviewer's seat (The Concert Chronicles). It is a habit, not a stunt: at the Irvine stop of the 2023 Shinedown co-headline run he "jumped into the crowd and walked to the middle of the venue letting every fan he passed sing with him" (Hunnypot, FivePoint Amphitheatre). A Bandsintown fan at the Auckland 2026 show put it plainly: he "walked through the middle of the floor, was nice to see him with the fans." Concert Addicts called him "a live wire from the jump, pacing, leaping, screaming, and pulling the crowd into every hook" at Rogers Arena in Vancouver in November 2025.

The Cockroach Band Runs a Candlelight Vigil

This is the part no first-timer sees coming. Midway through the set, the mosh pits stop and Shaddix talks about his own addiction and suicidal thoughts, sometimes through spoken-word poetry, before the band plays "Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)" under a venue-wide sea of phone lights. The Chicago 2025 attendee described the arena "transformed to a candlelight vigil" (The Concert Chronicles). The band announces a per-city donation to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention from the stage, and at North American shows the AFSP has tables on the concourse handing out free glow sticks and resource cards. A band with a dead roach for a logo delivers the most emotionally heavy segment you will sit through at an arena rock show.

The Covers Are Load-Bearing

Papa Roach treats other people's songs as core setlist material, and it maps their whole family tree. Band introductions are performed over an instrumental of 2Pac's "California Love," a nod to their Northern California roots. "Forever" segues into the chorus of Linkin Park's "In the End" as a tribute to Chester Bennington, and at Wacken 2025 Shaddix extended it into the choral refrain of Black Sabbath's "Changes" until 80,000 people joined in (Metal Hammer). Then, right before "Last Resort," comes the nu-metal medley: snippets of Korn's "Blind," Deftones' "My Own Summer," Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff," and System of a Down's "Chop Suey!" Shaddix's own framing: "just epic fucking riffs one after another" (Kerrang!).

Catharsis, Not Nostalgia

Fans describe these shows in therapy language, and they are not exaggerating. A Metal Planet Music reviewer called the band "my rock n roll therapy... an outlet, a release and an escape." Shaddix says he meets someone on tour every day who tells him "your music saved my life" (NME). The show swings hard between the two poles: pits and crowdsurfers on "Blood Brothers" and "Infest," then the hushed phone-light vigil, then back to chaos. Kerrang! described the Wembley 2025 "Last Resort" finale as the crowd moshing "in unison as pillars of pyro blast all around onstage. It's chaotic and cathartic."

Divorced Dads and TikTok Kids, Same Pit

The crowd is two generations deep: nu-metal millennials who bought Infest in 2000 next to Gen Z fans who found "Last Resort" through its TikTok resurgence (Kerrang!). The Chicago reviewer affectionately filed the whole room under "divorced dad rock." The split has a geography inside the venue. The floor runs pits and a continuous stream of crowdsurfers (at Wacken 2025, Metal Hammer counted "an endless stream of crowdsurfers that persists throughout the set"), while the seated bowl sings every chorus. Bandsintown first-timer reviews run in the vein of "This was an absolute dream come true! Jacoby was incredible on stage and gave it his all."
