What Is It Like to See James Marriott Live?
A former YouTuber who stages a full breakdown on the floor during "Something's Wrong," opens pits on cue for "Sleeping on Trains," and ends most nights daring the whole room to out-hold a note in "Grapes."
What to Know Before You Go
- 1Learn "Grapes" properly.
It's his most-played song and the night's peak, and there's a live-only bit where the crowd is challenged to hold a note. You'll want the breath for it.
- 2Pick your two pit songs.
"Sleeping on Trains" and "Grapes" are where the floor opens up, and he asks for the pits himself. The rest of the set is jumping and singing, so you can stay near the front without getting flattened.
- 3Bring tissues for the middle.
"Car Lights" into "White Noise" into "Romanticise This" is the run where reviewers keep spotting people crying.
- 4Australian dates have Eliza & The Delusionals opening.
The Gold Coast indie band plays every date of the October 2026 run.
- 5Expect songs you haven't heard.
He's been testing unreleased tracks from the January 2027 album *Warning Signs* ("Lovestruck," "Sleepwalker," "Freak") alongside the new single "Burn Down the Disco."
- 6Watch the entrance.
He comes on as a silhouette through smoke and strobes, and "Something's Wrong" turns into an acted-out collapse on the stage floor.
- 7Parents are part of the crowd.
UK and US reviewers keep noticing parents at the barrier or at the back, and the Australian shows are all-ages.

What It's Actually Like
"Grapes" Is the Whole Point, and It Has a Dare in It
Setlist.fm has "Grapes" at 123 of his 128 logged shows, and it's the finale at most of them. You feel it coming: the room starts bouncing before the first chorus, and by the end the jumping reaches the back wall. At Middle East Downstairs in Boston in September 2025 he played it in sunglasses and a cowboy hat a fan had made him, then walked off and the house lights came up. At Brixton Academy in September 2026 it closed an encore of brand-new songs instead. The live version also carries a hold-the-note dare the record doesn't have (more in Fan Culture).
You'll Hear Tracks Before They Exist
He road-tests new material constantly, so a chunk of the set may be unfamiliar even to superfans. At Mountford Hall in November 2025, after the show, he played an unreleased "California Rain" acoustic outside in the rain for the fans still hanging around (Boot Music). At Concorde 2 in Brighton in June 2026 he skipped his usual opener and started with the unreleased "Sleepwalker," then debuted "Burn Down the Disco." At Brixton in September 2026 he debuted "Lovestruck" and "Freak" and announced the album they're from on stage. If a song you don't know gets the biggest cheer, that's why.
“You won't see more people jumping at any other gig.”
He Acts the Songs Out
He walks on as a shadow. In Boston the lights dimmed and he appeared backlit against strobes; at Brighton Dome a cloud of smoke covered the stage before he stepped out in silhouette. Then "Something's Wrong" gets staged. In Brighton he ran across the stage, stared down the crowd and collapsed into a full onstage breakdown on the floor. At the Octagon in Sheffield in November 2025 the strobes caught a sparkly tank top like a mirror ball, and a local reviewer called the whole thing "distinctly analogue" rather than polished.
The Slow Run Is Where People Cry
The set swings between jump songs and sad ones, and the sad ones land hard. Scene called "Car Lights" through "Romanticise This" "arguably the most emotionally heavy run of songs" at Brighton Dome, with "tears in so many eyes." A student reviewer for Epigram saw "tear-stained cheeks" during "Don't Blame Me" at SWX in Bristol in January 2024, a song he introduced as the "best song [he's] ever written." Then the band leaves him alone for "Limbs," solo with an acoustic guitar, which The Star called "a highlight of the show for many in attendance" in Sheffield.
He Talks, Jokes, and Sometimes Hands Over the Setlist
Between songs he's chatty and self-aware. In Sheffield he said "It's quite hard to make a setlist everyone likes" and let the room vote; they picked "Going Postal at the Party." At Mountford Hall he told the crowd his band had once played the same room "to a group of unimpressed label executives." Boston University's WTBU caught him showing off his on-stage green tea, "like a real fuckin' rockstar," then stopping to ask, "Was someone harmonizing just now?" In Boston he also asked people to hold a friend's hand and light up their phones for a sad one.
Young Crowd, Parents at the Back
Most of the room came up through his YouTube years, and it skews young. Epigram's reviewer at SWX saw LGBTQIA+ teens, "laddish" teenage boys and parents leaning on the barrier, noting "even the most straight-faced parents" were nodding along. In Sheffield, The Star described "a pulsating military of raised phones" filming everything. In Boston the parents stood at the back and smiled more as the night went on.
Australia Tour (2026)
Five theaters in October 2026, rescheduled from March and April with original tickets still valid: the Astor Theatre in Perth (October 5), the Enmore Theatre in Sydney (October 8), Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane (October 10), Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide (October 12) and the Forum in Melbourne (October 14). It's his first Australian run since December 2024.
The Setlist Is the Number 1 Record Plus What's Next
The Perth opener ran 17 songs, setlist.fm logs show. "Ventriloquist" and "Something's Wrong" open, the middle is Don't Tell The Dog and the older favorites, and it closes "Sleeping on Trains," "Car Lights," "Toothache," "Burn Down the Disco" and "Grapes." Unreleased "Lovestruck" sits in the back half. From his very first show in 2022, "Him," "Car Lights," "Sleeping on Trains" and "Grapes" have all survived.
All-Ages Rules Differ by City
Every date is licensed all-ages, but the fine print varies. In Perth, anyone under 18 must come with a parent or guardian who also holds a ticket. At the Forum in Melbourne, 14- to 17-year-olds can go in alone and 13-and-unders need a ticketed adult (Frontier Touring). Check your city before you plan a drop-off.
What Comes After
He's announced a 2027 world tour behind Warning Signs: North American clubs in February and March, then a UK run with multiple nights at Barrowland Ballroom and a London finale at OVO Arena Wembley on April 9, 2027. Wembley is the one arena on a run otherwise made of clubs and theaters.

Merch
No reliable merch prices or quality reports have surfaced from fans yet, and the "tour merch" listings that show up in searches are third-party knockoffs, not his. The useful tip is about tickets rather than shirts: presale access for the 2027 world tour was tied to pre-ordering Warning Signs from his official store (The Scotsman), so the store is worth watching when the next run is announced. At a June 2026 outdoor support slot, front-row fans were already wearing his shirts after hours in the heat, so it's clearly on the floor at shows.

Frequently Asked Questions
It's a young, loud, emotional show that alternates between crying songs and jumping songs. He stages "Something's Wrong" as a breakdown on the floor, calls for pits during "Sleeping on Trains," and ends with the whole room bouncing to "Grapes."
His headline set runs 1h 20m to 1h 35m, with 17 to 20 songs, based on setlist.fm logs from the Roundhouse, Brixton and Perth. Back in early 2024 his sets were closer to an hour.
Yes, the oldest ones are the ones he never drops. "Grapes," "Sleeping on Trains," "Car Lights" and "Him" all debuted at his first show in October 2022 and appear in nearly every set since.
Reviewers keep saying yes, and they single out the vocals on the slow songs. Forge Press praised the "riffs and vocalisations" on the ballads in Sheffield, and The Star said "White Noise" came "stripped of any studio sheen."
At the Roundhouse, Brixton and Perth his set started at 9:00 PM, after support acts, with doors between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM.
Yes, especially now. He's still playing theaters, his 2027 London date is already an arena, and the current shows mix the Number 1 album with songs nobody has heard on record yet.
"Grapes" is the peak and the most-played song of his career. "Sleeping on Trains" is the other pit song, and the slow run of "Car Lights," "White Noise" and "Romanticise This" is the emotional center.
Often, yes. The Australian dates are licensed all-ages with city-specific rules, and UK reviewers regularly note parents with younger fans in the room. Check your venue's age policy before you buy.
It's longer and bigger. In January 2024 at SWX the set ran close to an hour and opened with "Over My Head." Now it opens with "Ventriloquist," leans on the *Don't Tell The Dog* songs, and plays theaters instead of clubs.
