What Is It Like to See Houndmouth Live?

The Lordy Tour 2026

A southern Indiana band that ends every night on "Sedona" with the crowd singing the bridge over them, after Matt Myers has walked back out alone with an acoustic guitar and made a whole room go quiet.

What to Know Before You Go

  • 1
Don't leave before the last song.

"Sedona" is the finale, and it's the one the whole room waits for.

  • 2
    Learn "Darlin'" too.

Myers points the mic at the crowd on it. When the room knows it, it's the loudest moment before the encore. When it doesn't, it dies on the spot.

  • 3
    The encore starts quiet.

Myers comes back alone for "For No One." People stop talking, and you should too.

  • 4
Find a dance partner for "McKenzie."

Couples pair off for it, on the floor and on amphitheater lawns.

  • 5
    Don't expect the 2015 band.

If you're coming for the four-voice *Little Neon Limelight* sound with Katie Toupin, that version isn't on stage anymore. Come for Myers's songs and the harmonies he still builds around them.

  • 6
    The new record goes first.

"Lordy" opens the show and songs from *Lordy* (July 2026) fill much of the first half. Play the album once before you go.

  • 7
    Catch the opener.

On this tour: harf. in Grand Rapids, Rayland Baxter at [The Anthem](/venues/the-anthem), Molly Tuttle with Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country on the September Southeast run, and Dogpark on the Del Mar date. Openers have joined Houndmouth for covers before.

  • 8
    Not a chatty show.

Myers plays song to song. When he does talk, it's usually a southern Indiana story, so listen for the one before "Palmyra."

What It's Actually Like

Every Night Ends on "Sedona"

"Sedona" is the most-played song of their career, 298 times on setlist.fm, and it has been the last or nearly last song on every tour reviewers have written up. For years it closed the main set: at Terminal 5 in 2016 drummer Shane Cody introduced it with "We got one more for you guys, thanks for making this one of our best nights as a band!" (The Waster), and it closed the main set again at the Paradise Rock Club in 2019. Since the Good For You years it has moved to the very end of the encore: the Gothic Theatre in 2022, Tuffy's in 2022, the Danforth Music Hall in 2024, and every documented 2026 headline show on setlist.fm. Leaving early to beat traffic means leaving before the one song everybody came for, and the crowd's part in it is covered under Fan Culture.

Myers Walks Back Out Alone

The encore almost never starts with the band. Matt Myers comes out by himself with an acoustic guitar and plays "For No One," and the room shifts from beer-in-hand party to near silence. At the Paradise in February 2019 he did it with only a saxophonist beside him, per the student station WTBU. At the Gothic Theatre in Englewood, Colorado, in February 2022, 303 Magazine called it "Bob Dylan-esque." At Salvage Station in Asheville in April 2024 he stayed out alone long enough to try a few unreleased songs before the band came back. At Tuffy's in 2022 the room went completely silent for it (Banded PR); at Meijer Gardens in 2026 the lawn stood up.

“I have never seen a band have more fun playing than Houndmouth.”
— Haley Bray, Banded PR, May 2022

More Than One Voice at the Mic

This was never a frontman-plus-backing-band setup, and you hear it in the harmonies. Atwood's reviewer picked out "My Cousin Greg" because it features every member's voice, and at The Depot in Salt Lake City in January 2025, three of the four sang "remarkably well," with keyboardist Caleb Hickman's voice drawing a Michael McDonald comparison from Salt Lake Magazine. At Tuffy's Music Box in Sanford, Florida, in May 2022 they swapped instruments mid-set: Myers to the drums, the drummer to bass, everyone taking a turn singing. On the 2026 tour, Myers and bassist Zac Anderson lean into one shared mic for long guitar breaks, grinning at each other.

He'd Rather Play Than Talk, Unless It's About Indiana

Expect songs back to back. Beyond The Watch's reviewer at the Danforth Music Hall in November 2024 wrote that "Houndmouth didn't waste much time talking between songs," and the Strange Carolinas blog called Myers understated and keener to play than chat at TD Amp Ballantyne in September 2026. The talking he does is local. Before "Palmyra" at that same show he said he "grew up there... used to cut grass there - it's not a great place." At Tuffy's in 2022 he set the record straight that the song is about a town, not a girl. In Grand Rapids he explained that "My Cousin Greg" was written in a friend's basement in Bloomington, Indiana, and that the other friend, Andy, now lives in Grand Rapids.

A Roots Cover Is Usually Coming

Most runs carry a cover of a songwriter they love, and openers often get pulled into it. Parker Millsap and his band joined for Dion's "Runaround Sue" at Bowery Ballroom in 2015. The 2016 Terminal 5 encore had Neil Young's "Motion Pictures." In 2024 it was Terry Allen's "Amarillo Highway," done as a piano number at Salvage Station and with the opening duo Briscoe singing along at the Danforth. In 2026 it's Fred Eaglesmith's "Trucker Speed" in the encore (setlist.fm, Pier 17, August 2026). If you hear an unfamiliar country song with the opener back on stage, that's this.

Myers's Band Now, and Fans Argue About It

The person singing "Sedona" is the only founder left. Katie Toupin left in 2016, bassist Zak Appleby later stepped away, and drummer Shane Cody was gone by spring 2024, and fans on Reddit now call the band "Houndmatt" (reported by Georgetown's review of The Anthem, August 2026). Reviewers split on it. Asheville Stages said the 2024 show "effectively channeled the energy of OG Houndmouth" but missed "the on-stage chemistry of yesteryear." Georgetown found Myers moving "quickly from track to track with little audience engagement" in 2026. On the other side, The Depot sold out all 1,200 tickets in sub-20-degree weather in January 2025, and Banded PR's reviewer at Tuffy's had never seen a band having more fun. Myers's own take, to Relix in 2026: "Our live show is very different from the record because we don't have all the moving parts."

The Lordy Tour (2026-2027)

The Lordy Tour follows Lordy (July 10, 2026, Dualtone), their first album in five years, produced by Brad Cook with Sam Beam of Iron & Wine, MJ Lenderman and Phil Cook on the record (Spin). It opened in Alaska over the summer, a run Myers said finally got them to all 50 states, and it's mostly theaters, ballrooms and amphitheaters: the Tabernacle in Atlanta in September, an Austin City Limits Weekend 2 set on October 11, two-night stands in Lexington and at The Vogue in late October, a Western run ending at The Sound in Del Mar on November 21, and three Canadian dates in February 2027 (Songkick).

A Quieter Record, a Louder Room

Myers wrote Lordy mostly alone at home on an acoustic guitar, and he told Relix the songs "always take a different shape live from when we go and record them." That's what you get. In Grand Rapids in July the title track opened with stacked a cappella harmonies before the bass and drums came in hard, and eight of the album's 11 songs made the set (Local Spins). Myers singled out "Carbondale" and "Don't Wanna Talk" as the new ones crowds took to fastest. Unreleased "Southside" is in most sets too, so you're hearing songs past Lordy already.

The Set: Lordy Up Top, Old Favorites Late

The shape barely moves (setlist.fm). "Lordy" opens, Lordy songs and "Make It to Midnight," "Cool Jam" and "Heavy Eyes" carry the first half, the Good For You songs "McKenzie," "Miracle Mile" and "Good for You" come late, and "Comin' Round Again" closes the main set. "Holy Moses," the Lordy closer, now sits in the encore with lap steel, and Myers told the Grand Rapids crowd he always plays it there. Longer nights just add songs: Pier 17 in August got 21, including "Varmints," "Carbondale" and the Eaglesmith cover, while the Tabernacle in September got the same core in 15.

Who's on Stage in 2026

Myers sings and plays lead, Caleb Hickman (on keys since 2016) sings, Zac Anderson has been on bass since 2023, and Noah Denney joined on drums this year, per the Strange Carolinas review and Relix. At The Anthem, Myers introduced Anderson as "Zac Anderson of Louisville, KY. A Scorpio." One summer review credited Shane Cody on drums, but both Relix and the September Strange Carolinas review say he's no longer in the band.

Who's Opening

It changes by leg. harf., Will Harford's indie-folk band, opened the July date at Frederik Meijer Gardens and said their job was to make sure fans were "not stiff when Houndmouth comes out." Rayland Baxter opened The Anthem in August and was on the Pier 17 bill the next night, ten years after he opened for them at Terminal 5. The late-September Southeast run paired them with Molly Tuttle and Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country; at TD Amp Ballantyne, Tuttle fans were four deep at the barricade before the sun set. Dogpark has the Del Mar date in November, where tickets run $30 in advance, $35 day of show and $55 for reserved seats (Belly Up).

The Fan Verdict So Far

Mostly warm, with one sharp exception. Local Spins in Grand Rapids had fans on their feet from "My Cousin Greg" on, and Myers calling Meijer Gardens "by far the best sounding venue we've played on this tour." Strange Carolinas caught him in a good mood under a full moon, saying "this is GREAT - this is big fun" during "McKenzie." Georgetown's review of The Anthem is the dissent: little banter, a flat singback, and a night that felt "less like the band coming to D.C. and more like the band coming to Jesus."

Merch

Merch intel is thin. Houndmouth's records and shirts are sold through their label's webstore (Dualtone), and as of October 2026 every Houndmouth item there is marked sold out, including both Lordy vinyl pressings and a signed "Tiger Blood" color LP. Listed prices before selling out: tees: $23 (a Good For You shirt; the yellow version was marked down to $18). Lordy vinyl: $30. Signed "Tiger Blood" vinyl: $45. Lordy CD: $14. With the webstore empty, the venue table is the only place to get Lordy items right now. No fan reports on quality or sizing turned up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rockier than the records suggest, with the Americana still in the songs. Myers takes long solos at the lip of the stage on the slow-burners (Asheville Stages, 2024), and Beyond The Watch heard blues-rock grit in his guitar at the Danforth in 2024. "Holy Moses" brings out lap steel in the 2026 encore, and the cover of the night is usually an old country or roots song.

The one timed Lordy Tour headline set, the Tabernacle in Atlanta on September 24, 2026, ran 1h 10m for 15 songs (setlist.fm). Bigger nights add up to six songs, and Georgetown's reviewer described The Anthem's August set as nearly two hours.

Late in the evening, after the support act. At the Tabernacle in 2026 doors were at 7:00 PM and Houndmouth came on at 9:15 PM (setlist.fm). We found no fan complaints about late starts.
