What Is It Like to See Greta Van Fleet Live?
Josh Kiszka riding a security guard's shoulders along the barricade with an armful of white roses, Jake soloing at the lip of the stage in heels, and three generations in fringe and flower crowns watching it like a church service.
What to Know Before You Go
- 1Want a rose? Be on the barricade.
The roses go to the front rows and run out fast. Full story in [Fan Culture](#fan-culture-and-traditions).
- 2The pit runs on numbered wristbands.
Arena GA floors hand out numbered wristbands on the morning of the show, and fans have camped overnight for them, once on a city footbridge in Greenville, South Carolina, in 2023.
- 3Openers by leg for 2027
Arc De Soleil (with Edgehill on some dates) on the first February run. The Kooks with Luna Li or Sana Sana Musica in March. Larkin Poe across Europe and the UK. Portugal. The Man with Sun Room or Friko in July.
- 4Know the first EP cold.
"Highway Tune," "Safari Song," "Flower Power" and "Black Smoke Rising" anchored every 2026 club show, and the crowd sings them louder than anything else.
- 5Learn the new singles.
"Play Your Games," "Saw You Stand" and "Tear It Down" were all in the 2026 sets, and fans at the [Bowery Ballroom](/venues/bowery-ballroom) were already singing the hooks back on first hearing.
- 6Patience for the solos.
Jake's guitar breaks and Danny Wagner's drum solo are long. If you want hit after hit with no detours, this isn't that band.
- 7Dress the part if you like.
Fringe, paisley, bell-bottoms, shawls and glitter eye makeup are everywhere, on fans from teenagers to grandparents.
- 8Watch the back of the room.
On the last arena run the band walked to a small stage on the far side of the floor for an acoustic set, and pit fans chased them across.
- 9Fixed-price tickets.
The 2027 tour has no platinum tickets and prices that don't move between presale and on-sale, so there's no reason to panic-buy the first minute.

What It's Actually Like
The Songs Turn Into Jams, and Fans Argue About It
A Greta Van Fleet setlist looks short on paper. Then "Highway Tune" stops being a three-minute song and becomes a harmonica jam, an Elvis "That's All Right" detour and a reprise, which is what happened in Greenville in March 2023 (Music Recall). At the Masonic in September 2018, "Edge of Darkness" ran past 10 minutes on Jake's soloing alone (PopMatters), and at the Fox in Detroit that December the "Lover, Leaver (Taker, Believer)" encore stretched to about half an hour (Resurget). You stand there watching Jake walk to the edge of the stage, bend backwards and play behind his head. Not everyone's sold. A Bandsintown attendee at Spokane Arena complained that "every third song" had "a 10-minute guitar solo." If you love the records, you'll probably love this. If you came for the radio single, you might check your watch.
Danny's Drum Solo Splits the Night in Half
Every tour has a long Danny Wagner solo, and it's the hinge of the show. At the Fox Theatre in Georgia in May 2019 he played about five minutes (Atlanta Music Guide). On the Starcatcher run it grew out of "Highway Tune" while the rest of the band walked off, and at Madison Square Garden on September 12, 2023 it built for about five minutes without ever quite landing (NYS Music). On the May 14, 2024 Duluth setlist it gets its own slot after "Runway Blues" (setlist.fm). The arena floor stays loud the whole way through, because something else is happening at the barricade while he plays. More on that in Fan Culture.
“There was a feeling of inclusion, and family in the room.”
Josh Treats Every Show Like a Ceremony
Josh almost never wears one outfit all night. At Madison Square Garden in 2023 he went from a white jumpsuit with a deep plunge to navy velvet to a sun-and-moon patched jumpsuit, then came back for the encore in a sun pantsuit and a cloak (NYS Music). At a California arena date in August 2023 it was midnight-blue velvet with silver stars, then a white feather-sequined jumpsuit, then a gilded sunburst duster (Melodic Magazine). He often plays barefoot, as he did at Tucson Arena in March 2023 (Atlas Artist Group). The talking is short and stylised: "I hear there's a rock and roll show in the house tonight" opened the Charleston show on Mother's Day 2024 (Music Recall). It's earnest from start to finish. Some people find that moving; PopMatters found Josh's scream "can start to feel a bit overdone."
Things Fly Both Ways Across the Barricade
The front rows aren't just watching. Josh gave his tambourine to a fan at an August 2021 amphitheater show in Tennessee (Backward Noise) and flung it into the crowd during "The Weight of Dreams" in Greenville in 2023 (Music Recall). It works in reverse too. In Charleston in May 2024 fans handed Josh sunglasses, hats and a boa during "Highway Tune," and he wore them. At an August 2023 California arena show a fan gave Jake a necklace, and he kept it on for the rest of the night (RIFF). At the 2021 amphitheater shows, drumsticks went into the pit too (Backward Noise).
You'll Be Standing Next to Three Generations
This crowd doesn't skew one way. At the Fox in Detroit in December 2018 the room held college kids, parents in old concert tees bringing their children to a first show, and middle-aged women with feathers braided into their hair (Resurget). At Tucson Arena in 2023 it was kids, parents and grandparents in paisley and bell-bottoms (Atlas Artist Group). Older classic-rock fans close their eyes through the songs; that was true at the Bowery Ballroom back in December 2017 (We All Want Someone To Shout For). Since 2023 the crowd has also got younger, and Rolling Stone noticed fans turning up "in sequins and makeup," not just vintage rock tees.
Into The Beginning Tour (2027)
59 dates across arenas and amphitheaters, promoted by Live Nation: 29 North American arena shows from February 3 (Enmarket Arena, Savannah) to March 30, 14 in Europe, the UK and Ireland from May 15 to June 4, and 16 more North American dates in July closing at Acrisure Amphitheater in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 31 (Louder; Pollstar). It's the first full tour behind the fourth album, Palace For The People, released October 9, 2026 on Republic.
What the 2026 Club Shows Tell You
No arena date has been played yet, so the best preview is the run of club underplays the band played in 2026 after nearly two years off. At the Bowery Ballroom on May 27 the night opened with "Highway Tune," ran through the first EP with an extended drum solo, and ended on two new songs, "Tear It Down" and "Play Your Games" (The Aquarian; MAGNET). The two reviews disagree on song count, nine or twelve, so don't take either as gospel. At Metro, a 1,100-capacity aftershow on Lollapalooza weekend on July 31, the band went on at 11:30pm and played 13 songs, mixing "Saw You Stand," "Tear It Down" and "Play Your Games" in with "Safari Song," "When the Curtain Falls," "Light My Love" and a closing "Heya" (JamBase, from setlist.fm). Expect the new album to take a bigger share in the arenas than it did in those rooms, but the old EP has survived every setlist since 2017.
Getting In Without Getting Gouged
The 2026 shows set the tone. Bowery tickets were physical, sold at the box office only on the day before, and some were handed over by band members themselves (The Aquarian). The three Saturday nights at The Basement East in October 2026 were online-only, two per person, Will Call pickup, with ID that had to match the order (Loudwire). For 2027 the band went the other way from dynamic pricing: fixed prices across presale and on-sale, no platinum tickets, face value plus fees through primary sellers, a fan presale through GretaVanFleet.com, and a Reserved by Spotify allocation of two per fan for some North American Premium users (Pollstar). VIP packages exist for North American dates (mxdwn).
Who's Opening, and Is It Worth It
The support changes by leg, so check your date. Arc De Soleil opens the February run, with Edgehill on some nights. The Kooks take over from the March arena shows, with Luna Li on the earlier stretch and Sana Sana Musica on the West Coast swing. Larkin Poe do all of Europe, the UK and Ireland. In July, Portugal. The Man come in with Sun Room, then Friko on the final eastern dates (Pollstar). With a full support act plus a second opener most nights, budget for a long evening.
What Probably Carries Over From Starcatcher
Nobody has seen the 2027 production, so here's what the last arena tour looked like. A giant curtain hid the stage, dropped after a burst of strobes, and revealed a raised platform with fire pillars hot enough to feel from the seats (RIFF). Two catwalks ran out into the pit and a small second stage sat on the far side of the arena (NYS Music). For the encore, Sam played Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" on piano before "Light My Love" and "Farewell for Now" (setlist.fm). Treat this as a guide to the band's habits, not a promise about February.

Merch
Merch intel is thin. At the May 2026 Bowery Ballroom show, fans lined up for hours before doors for the tour shirts and posters and walked in with armloads of them (The Aquarian). T-shirts: $20. Posters: $20. No arena-tour prices or quality reports turned up for Starcatcher or Into The Beginning, so treat those numbers as a club-show snapshot.

Frequently Asked Questions
It's a 1970s-style rock show played completely straight: long solos, a drum feature, costume changes and a singer who talks like he's opening a ceremony. The band treats it like a ceremony, and the crowd, from teenagers in glitter to grandparents in fringe, treats it the same way.
The headline set runs 2h 0m to 2h 15m on the arena tours. Bandsintown attendees logged 2 hours 10 minutes in Greenville and 2 hours 15 minutes in Oklahoma City, which lines up with the Duluth setlist.fm times. The 2026 club shows were much shorter, about an hour at the Bowery.
Whatever you like, but you won't stand out in fringe, bell-bottoms or a flower crown. See [Fan Culture](#fan-culture-and-traditions) for what the crowd actually wears.
Mostly the hits and the current album, stretched out. Each tour keeps a fixed core, and the first EP's songs ("Highway Tune," "Safari Song," "Black Smoke Rising") have been in every era. Covers still turn up: "Unchained Melody" sat in the acoustic set on the last arena tour, and Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters songs were regulars in 2018.
At arenas, expect them around 8:50pm to 9:05pm after the openers. At Duluth in May 2024 doors were 6pm and the band hit the stage at 8:50pm (setlist.fm), and a Bandsintown attendee in Greenville watched the curtain drop at 9:03pm.
Yes, if you want guitar heroics and theater and don't mind a song stretching to ten minutes. Reviewers from small zines to RIFF rate the arena shows highly; the main complaint, from attendees like the one at Spokane, is too much soloing per song.
"Highway Tune" is the one: NYS Music said the Garden "has never been louder" than on its final chorus. "Light My Love" is the emotional peak of the encore, and "The Archer" carries Jake's longest solo on the Starcatcher setlists.
Probably in spirit, but nobody knows the staging yet. The 2026 club shows mixed the first EP with the new singles, and the last arena tour used a curtain drop, fire and a second stage at the back. Details are in the [current tour section](#into-the-beginning-tour-2027).
Plenty of people do. At the Fox in Detroit in 2018 a reviewer saw parents bringing their children to a first show, and Tucson Arena in 2023 had kids alongside their grandparents. Seats are the calmer call; the front of the GA pit can get crushing, and one Kalamazoo reviewer moved back because of it.
The comparison follows them everywhere, and reviewers bring it up at almost every show. PopMatters called it unavoidable in 2018 but said the band still felt fresh live; We All Want Someone To Shout For heard it most in Josh's vocals and the riffs.
