Pop Choruses Welded to Power Metal

The first thing that hits you is how much pop is in the machine. Opener "Power of the Beast" is, in the words of one reviewer, "almost as much pop as it is metal with a super catchy hook," and a song like "Blood of a Lion" gets described as something that "would not sound out of place in Eurovision." That is not an insult in this room. Beast In Black sit downstream of the galloping, melody-first power metal that runs back through Helloween and Iron Maiden, but they pile synthwave, 80s AOR, and dance-pop on top until every chorus is engineered to be shouted. First-timers who expect straight heavy metal are the ones most surprised, usually in a good way.

Yannis Papadopoulos Is the Vocal Event

The Greek vocalist is the center of gravity. He works the stage in head-to-toe black leather, and the reason to keep your eyes on him is not choreography, it is the voice. At the Eventim Apollo in October 2025, "Blind and Frozen" was singled out as the moment his range fully opened up. There is no costume change, no theatrical set piece pulling focus. The show is built around a singer who can actually hit the notes live, which in this genre is not a given.

Kabanen Hangs Back While the Flanks Run Wild

The stage geography is consistent enough to plan your sightlines around. Founder and main songwriter Anton Kabanen, usually in sunglasses, plants himself toward the back for most of the set, while guitarist Kasperi Heikkinen and bassist Máté Molnár run the front like the stage is on fire, and drummer Atte Palokangas twirls and throws sticks whenever his hands are free. The recurring payoff is the two guitarists trading solos face to face, which they do on the set-closer "No Surrender." If you want the energy, do not just stare at the singer.

The Singalongs Start With "Hardcore"

"Hardcore" is the reliable ignition point. It lands early and pulls the first full-venue singalong of the night, and from there "One Night in Tokyo" and "Blind and Frozen" keep the crowd's voice in the mix, with fists and horns up. When Beast In Black played London supporting Helloween, Papadopoulos leaned into the room being "the home of heavy metal," and the crowd sang back loud enough that a fair chunk of the sold-out house had clearly come for the openers. The material does the work: it is written to be participatory.

It's Just Plain Fun

The emotional register here is joy, not catharsis or darkness. The band visibly enjoys itself, and that reads straight to the floor. Opening for Helloween at the Palladium in Times Square in April 2026, they "hit hard from the jump" and, per the review, "arrived as a special guest and left having earned considerably more than that." Nobody leaves a Beast In Black set wrung out. They leave grinning, having shouted a lot of choruses about a manga.

Announced in October 2025, this is Beast In Black's first full headline tour built around their fourth studio album, running late October into early December 2026 across Europe. Sonata Arctica join as special guest and Frozen Crown open. It routes through mid-size halls: Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, O13 in Tilburg, Haus Auensee in Leipzig, the Gasometer in Vienna, Barba Negra in Budapest, and on across the continent.

What the Set Will Feel Like

This is the presentation of new material, so expect the fourth album woven through a spine of the established singalongs. The band's own promise for the run: "we promise you a show like no other from Beast In Black, and we guarantee a night you'll always remember." Based on the recent support slots and the last headline tours, the through-line stays the same: pop-forward choruses, Papadopoulos's range out front, the guitarists working the flanks, and a crowd that treats the choruses as its own.

A Full Set, Not the 45-Minute Support Version

If your only prior Beast In Black experience was an opening slot for Nightwish, Sabaton, or Helloween, the headline show is a different animal. Support sets run about ten songs in roughly 45 minutes; the headline set stretches to around 1h 35m and 16 to 17 songs, which is where the deep cuts live ("Eternal Fire," "Revengeance Machine," "To the Last Drop of Blood," "Oceandeep"). This tour is the version where you actually get those.

One Open Question: Will Kabanen Be There

Worth flagging honestly: founder and chief songwriter Anton Kabanen sat out the spring 2026 North American Helloween support run to finish the fourth album, and the band added guitarist Markus Venehsalo to cover solos during recording. Whether Kabanen fronts the full 2026 headline tour is the one thing long-time fans are watching. The show goes on either way, but his presence is not guaranteed the way the others' are.
