What Is It Like to See Basement Live?
An Ipswich emo band that would rather play without a barrier, a floor that goes airborne on the first chorus, and a whole room screaming "Covet" back at Andrew Fisher like it's 2012 again, except some of them found it on TikTok.
What to Know Before You Go
- 1Be on the floor from the first note.
On the 2026 US dates "Covet," the song most people came for, is the fourth song, not the closer. Walk in late and you've missed it.
- 2Learn three more songs.
"Pine," "Yoke" and "Crickets Throw Their Voice" draw the loudest singalongs after "Covet." Fans sing the self-critical lines back at Fisher in near-unison.
- 3
**Skip *Beside Myself* homework.** The 2025 UK sets played nothing from the 2018 album. The 2026 shows lean on the new record *WIRED* and the 2012 favourite *Colourmeinkindness*.
- 4Openers are worth catching.
North American dates: Momma, Big Boy and Febuary in the East and South, DIIV in [Los Angeles](/cities/los-angeles), High Vis, Big Boy and First Day Back in the West and Midwest, plus Fiddlehead in [Boston](/cities/boston). UK and Europe in February 2027: Fleshwater and Béton Armé on every date.
- 5The band sometimes works the support slot.
Drummer James Fisher played a full set with the [London](/cities/london) hardcore band Dynamite before drumming for Basement in 2025, and guitarist Alex Henery also plays in Fiddlehead.
- 6Merch

What It's Actually Like
They'd Rather There Was No Barrier
Basement grew up going to hardcore shows, and they play like it. Guitarist Alex Henery calls himself "a no barrier purist," and when the room allows it there's nothing between you and the band. At Projekts Skatepark in Manchester in May 2026, At The Barrier's reviewer wrote "There was no barrier at this performance, no separation between the crowd and the band," and fans climbed the skate ramps to see over the heads. At The Fleece in Bristol the same week the stage was so small Fisher warned "this stage is crazy small, if you're jumping up, be careful, and please be sure to catch people," and bassist Duncan Stewart hauled a stumbling fan back to his feet. Bigger rooms put the barrier back. Henery's line on why: "people are going to get hurt and it's not a good idea."
"Covet" Is the Song the Room Came For
Every era of Basement show peaks on a 2012 song. It closed the set at Cat's Cradle in Raleigh in November 2015 "to great crowd participation," per WKNC. At Kilby Court in Salt Lake City in October 2018 it was the emotional high point for SLUG's reviewer. On the 2025 UK tour it was the closer again, and at Electric Bristol the Get Ready To Rock reviewer compared the whole room singing it to a British primary school assembly. At Projekts in 2026 it set off the wildest scenes the Über Röck reviewer had seen in a while, with people nearly "cartwheeling off the stage." The surprise on the 2026 US tour is where it sits: fourth, after three new songs, at all three of the first shows (setlist.fm).
“I was always drawn to hardcore because to me there was no distinction between the band and the crowd”
Andrew Fisher Dances, and Watches the Surfers
Fisher isn't a stand-at-the-mic singer. At Cat's Cradle in 2015, WKNC's reviewer wrote "It wasn't "Hotline Bling" level dancing but it was damn close." At Irving Plaza in New York in May 2019, Substream caught him looking amazed at the crowd and making eye contact with the surfers coming over the front. At Projekts in 2026 he'd won the room within two songs, per Über Röck. He's a fan of the bands on his own bill, too: on the 2025 UK tour he cheered on each support act, and the band dedicated a song to every one of them.
About an Hour, and No Smoke
You get a short, loud set with plain lights. Guitarist Ronan Crix put it bluntly to the UCSD Guardian in 2018: "You're not going to see any smoke and mirrors, it's just us playing rock-and-roll music." The 2026 US sets run 1h 5m to 1h 10m (setlist.fm), and reviewers keep saying how fast it goes. The 2025 Electric Bristol show "felt as if it was over as quickly as it had started," and Out Of Rage called the Manchester set three nights earlier "Fleeting." The set is the same every night on the current tour, so there's nothing to chase across multiple dates.
Older Emos, and Their Younger Siblings
The core of the room grew up on the 2011 and 2012 records. Out Of Rage, at Manchester's New Century Hall in September 2025: "This is a fanbase that has experienced a lot- they were older than expected but knew exactly what they were getting into," with "millennial men" heading for the pit. Since "Covet" went viral on TikTok, there's a second, younger crowd on top. Epigram's student reviewer at Electric Bristol saw new and older fans mixed together and called them "English emos." One of the newest was still at school: at The Fleece in May 2026, Fisher read out a message from a parent whose kid was only allowed to come because they had revised for their GCSEs.
A Reunion That Refuses to Be One
At New Century Hall in 2025 some of the crowd were in tears, per Out Of Rage. But the band won't play the nostalgia card. At their Outbreak Fest headline in Manchester in June 2026, Fisher told the crowd "Basement is not a nostalgia band; this is a living, breathing creative process," as When The Horn Blows recounted, and at the London album launch Noizze heard "no sense of a reunion trying to recreate the past." Media Junkbox, leaving New Century Hall in 2025, summed up what fans walk out with: "Basement in 2025 feel like icons. That's all there is to it."
WIRED Tour (2026-2027)
The first Basement album in eight years, WIRED (May 2026, back on Run For Cover), has a tour to match: 19 announced North American dates from October 7 to November 13, 2026 in theatres and ballrooms, then 15 UK and European dates in February 2027.
It Started in Skateparks and Tunnels
Before the theatres, the band launched the record in rooms that hold a few hundred: a tunnel venue at 26 Leake Street in London, Projekts Skatepark in Manchester, Mono in Glasgow, The Fleece in Bristol, an acoustic set at Rough Trade in Nottingham, all sold out with no support act. The London and Manchester nights were run with Outbreak Fest. At Leake Street, Noizze heard fans scream back every word of "Spoiled" and the new "Head Alight," and the band talked between songs about supporting grassroots venues. At Projekts, Über Röck called it "the most engaged I've seen people be at a gig for a long time."
The Set: New Record First
The North American set opens with three WIRED songs ("Time Waster," "Deadweight," "The Way I Feel") and carries seven new songs across 18. The old favourites are there ("Spoiled," "Bad Apple," "Brother's Keeper," "Aquasun," "Whole," "Pine"), but it's built as a new-album show. The first three dates, at Brooklyn Paramount on October 7, The Fillmore in Philadelphia on October 9 and the 9:30 Club on October 10, played the identical list in the identical order (setlist.fm). The last song was "Promise Everything" every time.
Early Show or Late Show
Check which kind of night you've got. Brooklyn Paramount was all ages with doors at 6:00 PM and Basement on at 9:50 PM, right on schedule (setlist.fm). The 9:30 Club date was a late show: doors at 10:00 PM and Basement on at 11:30 PM. Brooklyn tickets ran $52-98 (mxdwn).
Who's Opening
The US bills are stacked, three or four bands deep on most nights. East and South: Momma, Big Boy and Febuary (Momma alone in DC). Los Angeles: DIIV at the Shrine Expo Hall. West and Midwest: High Vis, Big Boy and First Day Back, with Fiddlehead added for the final night at Roadrunner in Boston (Knotfest; Consequence). There are no fan verdicts on the US openers yet. One warning from 2025: a Get Ready To Rock reviewer felt three supports left the headliner "a bit squashed."
Festivals Got the Short Version
Summer 2026 festival sets ran 4 to 12 songs (setlist.fm). The crowds didn't scale down. Opening the East Stage at All Points East in Victoria Park on August 23, they drew what When The Horn Blows called "potentially one of the biggest and most unruly crowds I have ever witnessed for an opener." In January they supported Turnstile across Australia and New Zealand, about 45 minutes at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on January 6, opening with "Are You the One" and closing with "Covet" (The AU Review).

What's Exclusive
The WIRED-era designs lean into a computer theme: a white Coder shirt with front and back print, a Pixel Logo shirt and hat, an ASCII Cat hoodie and a WIRED Cat long-sleeve. The thing that really disappears is colour vinyl. The pink and red Promise Everything swirl, the yellow splatter Colourmeinkindness, the coke bottle clear anniversary double LP and the Further Sky clear 7" are all listed sold out on the band's Bandcamp. The 2022 Colourmeinkindness tenth-anniversary galaxy swirl variant was limited to 300 copies (BrooklynVegan).
The Strategy
The shirts, hoodie, long-sleeve and hat all sit on Bandcamp and ship within three days, so the merch table is optional if you only want apparel. Buy limited colour vinyl when it's announced, because once a pressing sells out it doesn't come back.
Basement · merch
Is the merch at a Basement show worth queueing for?
Not what it costs. The price card answers that. This is whether the queue is optional, which has different inputs.
- Can you get it later?
- Shirts yes, vinyl no
- When do you queue?
- No rush for apparel
- What will you spend?
- $30 to $60

Tour History
WIRED Tour
Sold-out, support-free launch shows in May 2026, a summer of European festivals and an Outbreak Fest headline, then 19 North American theatre dates and a February 2027 run that includes the [Roundhouse](/venues/roundhouse) in London, the [Barrowland Ballroom](/venues/barrowland-ballroom) in Glasgow and [The Prospect Building](/venues/the-prospect-building) in Bristol.
UK Tour
Five UK dates, the first proper UK run in six years, with Midrift, Dynamite and Anxious supporting.
The Comeback Shows
A 2022 Outbreak Fest sub-headline was their only show between 2019 and 2024.
Beside Myself
A sold-out Che Café two days before the album came out, where the new opener "Disconnect" got a "lukewarm" response until "Fading" started the pit (UCSD Guardian).
Promise Everything
Their busiest years: 106 shows in 2016 and 97 in 2017 (setlist.fm).
Further Sky Return
Back from the first hiatus, they headlined a sold-out Webster Hall on August 19, 2014, three years after opening for Daylight at Acheron in New York to what the band remembered as no more than 50 people.
Early Years
Tours alongside Daylight, including a 2011 New York opening slot at Acheron, ending with an August 2012 run of small US rooms from Birmingham, Alabama to Allentown, Pennsylvania that they said would be "the last thing we do as a band for a very long time" (Scene Point Blank).
Frequently Asked Questions
It's a short, loud emo show with plain lights and a crowd that knows every word of the 2012 records. Andrew Fisher dances, the band talks up their support acts, and the whole room screams "Covet."
Basement play for 1h 5m to 1h 10m on the 2026 tour, per setlist.fm's timings for Brooklyn Paramount and the 9:30 Club. Festival sets are shorter (see [the tour section](#festivals-got-the-short-version)).
On time, going by the one 2026 show with logged start times: at Brooklyn Paramount the scheduled and actual start were both 9:50 PM. Plan around the posted set time, and check whether your date is a late show (details in [Early Show or Late Show](#early-show-or-late-show)).
Dress for a pit. In 2018 the Che Café crowd was flannel shirts, sharp winged eyeliner and dad hats, and at the 2026 Manchester launch people were climbing skate ramps to see over the pit.
Mostly the favourites plus the new record. Their five most-played songs live are "Whole," "Covet," "Spoiled," "Promise Everything" and "Pine" (setlist.fm), and all five are still in the 2026 set. The 2018 album *Beside Myself* barely appears anymore.
Yes. Media Junkbox left a 2025 Manchester show calling them icons, and Noizze heard "the band sounded completely locked in" at the 2026 London launch. The rooms keep selling out, from New Century Hall in 2025 to every date of the May 2026 launch run.
"Covet" is the one everyone came for. After that, "Pine," "Whole" and "Promise Everything" are the crowd's biggest moments, and "Earl Grey" got about 1,500 people singing at New Century Hall in 2025 (Media Junkbox).
The 2026 set is built around the new album: seven *WIRED* songs, with three of them up top. In 2025 the band were still playing their two then-unreleased songs as teasers in a set defined by *Colourmeinkindness*, with "Covet" saved for last.
