Five Voices, Live, Still in Tune

The harmonies are the real thing. All five originals (AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson) are still on the stage, and the five-part vocals you remember from the studio recordings are reproduced live. Reviewing the Sphere opening night, Billboard said "the gentlemen's vocals shined. They didn't miss a note or a beat." The clearest test of this is the acoustic medley moment, where the five of them gather close together and pull back the production. "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" gets wrapped in shimmering blue 360-degree visuals and the harmonies do the work alone. If you came in skeptical that they could still sing it, you don't leave skeptical.

Choreography in Their 50s, and It Holds Up

The four touring members are between 45 and 53 years old, and they still hit the routines. Live for Live Music wrote that "the band members lean heavily into complex choreography, even more than contemporaries like New Kids on the Block, who have a Vegas residency of their own at Park MGM" (Live for Live Music, July 2025). Choreography directors Rich + Tone (Rich and Tone Talauega) anchor the show in the original "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" / "Larger Than Life" / "I Want It That Way" moves, full body-rolls and formation changes intact. You can pick out the original-era fans in the crowd by who is doing the arm motions on autopilot during "Everybody."

The Banter Is Half the Reason You're Here

Between numbers, the five of them roast each other and address the crowd directly. AJ takes the loudest personality role. Nick plays the heartthrob. Howie is the warm one. Brian leans earnest. Kevin steadies the group with the deepest voice in the lineup. They talk about being parents now, work in long-time fan callbacks, and reference the band's own history (including AJ's 2001 hiatus, which is occasionally mentioned from stage). After 30+ years of being the same five guys, the chemistry is not performed. It reads as the actual relationship they have with each other.

"Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" Is Cardio for the Whole Room

The closing trifecta is "We've Got It Goin' On," "The Call," and "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)," ending with what reviewers described as "an army of dancing robots" filling the Sphere screen. "Everybody" is the song the entire room knows the moves to. The "Am I sexual? Yeah!" line is documented crowd participation since the song dropped in 1997. You don't need to rehearse. By the second chorus your hands are doing the choreography even if you were skeptical you remembered any of it.

A Crowd of People Who Were 12 in 1999

Sphere Las Vegas residency that opened July 2025, ran an initial 21 sold-out shows reaching nearly 350,000 fans, then extended into late December 2025, January-February 2026 (with seven more February dates added "due to incredible fan demand," per Sphere Entertainment Co.), and again into a Summer 2026 block running July 16 through August 29 (Sphere Entertainment Co. press release). The European Homecoming leg is a 10-show stadium residency at Merkur Spiel-Arena Düsseldorf, September 25 through October 7, 2026, billed as their only European dates of 2026 (Live Nation / Merkur Spiel-Arena official). The Production: Space Station, Asteroid Stage, and a 70-Foot Rise

The show opens with "Larger Than Life," the band emerging as if their spaceship has rocketed into orbit and landed on a futuristic asteroid stage (Las Vegas Weekly, July 2025). "I Want It That Way" is the production's marquee moment. The stage rises roughly 70 feet on four nearly invisible winch lines while a sunset panorama wraps the entire dome (Las Vegas Review-Journal, July 2025). Fan Verdict

Overwhelmingly positive. Billboard called it "arguably their best performance yet" (July 2025). The Hollywood Reporter called it "a game-changer for Sphere." USA Today called it "more than a mere concert, it was a thrill ride." The strongest praise centers on the choreography-and-Sphere-visuals combination and the vocals. The most common negative is that some fans expected a longer 2.5-hour arena set and the Sphere show is tighter at under two hours. The Düsseldorf 2026 dates (Sep 25, 27, 29; Oct 1, 3, 5, 7) are the band's first multi-night Merkur Spiel-Arena residency and are framed as a "Homecoming" because Germany was where BSB first broke internationally in 1995.

Sphere is a 6-by-6-by-2-inch maximum bag venue, no exceptions. Walk in through the Venetian or Palazzo enclosed connector. Show "officially" starts at 8:00 PM but the real performance begins around 8:30 PM with a countdown. Multiple merch stations carry different inventory.
