What Is It Like to See a Concert at Suncorp Stadium?
The old Lang Park, built over Brisbane's 19th-century cemetery, where a tight rectangular bowl stacks 52,500 seats close to the stage and the crowd sounds like it's sitting on top of the band.
What to Know Before You Go
- 1Don't drive
A 15-minute parking limit covers every street in the Lang Park Traffic Area, roughly 1.5 km around the stadium, and it's enforced with on-the-spot fines. Details are in [Getting There](#getting-there).
- 2Your ticket is a train ticket
For most concerts it covers Queensland Rail City Network trains and Transport for Brisbane buses from 12 midday. Airtrain and ferries aren't included.
- 3Know your gate before you leave home
On recent tours Front GA has entered through Gate D at the Caxton Street end, while Rear GA has used Gate B or B2 at the Milton Road end. Reserved seats go in at the gate printed on your ticket.
- 4Budget real time for entry
Long entry queues are the most consistent fan complaint here, from Coldplay in 2016 to Lady Gaga in 2025. Get there at gate time, not at the headliner's set time.
- 5GA campers have a start time
The venue asks fans not to queue before 9am on show day, and it runs a queue system on the plaza opposite the gates, with toilets and food nearby.
- 6Bags are A3 or smaller
Some tours tighten that to A4, so check the event page. Every bag gets checked and every person gets wanded. Hard eskies are out.
- 7Pack light because cloaking is slow
Cloak tents go up on the North and South Plazas in the early afternoon, and the venue itself warns that wait times are often long at both drop-off and pick-up.
- 8Front GA has its own rules
No umbrellas anywhere on the field, and no hard plastic or metal drink bottles in Front GA. Soft plastic bottles with the lid off are fine.
- 9It's cashless
Card or phone only, at the bars, the food stands and the merch tables.
- 10Re-entry is possible but plan for it
Exit passes are issued at the Northern and Southern Plaza ends and your ticket gets scanned on the way out and back in. Smokers have to do this, since there's no smoking or vaping inside.
- 11Go to Caxton Street first
The Caxton Hotel has been pouring since 1864 and opens its carpark as an extra bar on big game nights. Caxton Street runs along the stadium's northern end, by Gates D and E.
- 12Expect the road to vanish at the end
Milton Road closes about 20 minutes before the show finishes and stays shut for up to an hour after.

What It's Actually Like
The Bowl Sits Right On Top of You
This is a rectangular football ground, not an oval, and every tier sits tight to the pitch. There's no running track and no wide apron, so the noise has nowhere to leak. Heavy Mag's reviewer at AC/DC in December 2025 said the atmosphere beat every football and concert night they'd seen at the ground. At Luke Combs in January 2025, The AU Review noticed the floor and the top rows were having the same night, which isn't a given at a stadium.
Summer Shows Here Are Hot, and the Seats Don't Breathe
Brisbane's stadium concerts mostly land between November and March. Fans have complained about the heat and the lack of airflow in the seated bowl at summer shows from 2015 through 2025. A 2015 Ed Sheeran reviewer on Tripadvisor described four hours in "a constant pool of sweat," and a February 2023 concertgoer wrote simply, "Zero airflow." The breeze moves through the concourse walkways and the gaps in the concrete, but it doesn't reach your row. Free water points are listed under Food, Drink, and Merch.
“Zero airflow.”
The Sky Can Stop the Show
The roof covers about 75% of the seats, but the field is open. At Luke Combs on 24 January 2025, a storm warning came through at 7:45pm and sent the floor scrambling for shelter. Scenestr reported the all-clear at 8:05pm, and The AU Review described lightning and thunder hitting "the open air stadium fast and hard." The venue's own conditions recommend a poncho or rain jacket for wet nights.
The East Side Cooks on an Afternoon Start
Where the sun lands decides a lot of summer shows here. The eastern bays, 317 to 326 in the lower tier and 517 to 526 in the middle, are the sunniest seats in the stadium, and they stay in the sun until the Western Grandstand finally shades them. The southern lower and middle bays, 308 to 314 and 508 to 514, catch it for part of the afternoon. The whole western side, lower bays 301 to 305 and 338 to 340 plus the upper 601 to 604 and 638 to 640, is in shade by about 3pm, and the southern upper bays 707 to 712 are mostly shaded. If your show has a 4pm gate and afternoon support acts, that's the difference between watching in comfort and baking.
Sound Is a Real Debate Here
Suncorp's sound depends on where you sit and what's playing. The AU Review called it "the notoriously tricky acoustics of Suncorp" in 2025. A Tripadvisor reviewer on the side at Paul McCartney in November 2023 said the PA was "shocking" for his between-song talking, and added they'd had the same trouble at Ed Sheeran and U2. The other side: a 2015 Ed Sheeran reviewer called the sound "amazing," and AC/DC reviewers in 2025 wrote about "ludicrous volume" as a compliment. In the reviews we found, the complaints cluster on spoken word and side seats.
Section-by-Section Guide
The lower tier is one continuous ring of bays numbered 301 to 340, starting at the northern end of the Western Grandstand and running clockwise. The middle tier, bays 506 to 536, runs around the north, east and south sides only. The upper tier is bays 704 to 738 on those same three sides, plus 601 to 604 and 638 to 640 above the Western Grandstand, which has no middle tier at all. The northern end faces Caxton Street and the southern end faces Milton Road.
The stage end changes from tour to tour. AC/DC played an end stage with a catwalk thrust into the crowd in 2025, while Ed Sheeran's 2026 maps put the stage on the field with Front GA and Rear GA zones around it. The venue posts a show-specific seating map on each event page closer to the date. Check it before you buy, because it decides which of the advice below applies to you.
Field: Front GA
Front GA is the zone closest to the stage, and on recent tours it's entered through Gate D at the Caxton Street end. You get a wristband at the gate, then you walk down to the field through the aisle printed on your ticket. The zone's stricter item rules are covered in What to Know Before You Go. Water stations sit at the field barriers, and Red Frogs volunteers walk the floor handing out water, which matters on a humid night.
The rush is real. At Luke Combs, scenestr watched fans race in to "secure the best spot in the mosh pit" once the gates opened. If you want the barrier, plan on joining the plaza queue when it opens at 9am.
Field: Rear GA
Rear GA covers the back half of the field and has used Gate B (or Gate B2 on Ed Sheeran's 2026 run) at the Milton Road end. It's the better pick if you'd rather have room to dance and a short trip to the bar than see faces without a screen. The field's bars, food stands, toilets and merch sit in the tunnels at the rear of the field level, so Rear GA is closer to all of it. A Coldplay 2016 fan who always stands on the field warned it's still "a bit of a walk to the loos" from the middle of the crowd, and that once you split from your friends, finding them again is hard. The two zones together held about 18,000 people at Coldplay in 2016 and at Ed Sheeran in 2018, according to the venue's post-event reports.
Some shows sell reserved seats on the field instead of standing room. Ed Sheeran's 2026 Shows 1 and 3 did. Those tickets enter at the gate printed on the ticket and still get a wristband.
Lower Tier (Bays 301 to 340)
For an end-stage show, the best reserved tickets in the building are the lower-tier sideline bays closest to the stage end, according to seating guides for the venue. You're barely above the field, and the bowl's steep stack means you aren't fighting a running track or a wide apron for distance.
One catch: the lowest rows are the most exposed seats in the stadium, because the roof stops short of them. The eastern bays in this ring take the worst of the afternoon sun (see What It's Actually Like).
Side views can cost you the main screen. A Tripadvisor reviewer on the side at McCartney in 2023 couldn't see the front screen's visuals at all, though the side screens worked. If you're right beside the stage, you're watching the screens on the wings.
Food on this level is easy to find. Red Rooster is at bay 302, a vegan bowl stand sits near bay 304, the Garden Bar is at 316, Choox is at 321, the Muster Grill is at 324 and Italiano is at 340 (see Food, Drink, and Merch).
Middle Tier (Bays 506 to 536)
The middle tier only exists on the north, east and south sides. Look for it in the Western Grandstand and you won't find it, because the 600s sit straight over the lower bays there.
This is the tier where front rows are good value. Seating guides for the venue rate the front rows of the middle and upper levels as cheaper than the lower ring while still giving a clean view. The eastern middle bays share the lower ring's sun problem on an afternoon start, so if you're choosing between east and south on a February show, south is the cooler pick.
Upper Tier (Bays 704 to 738)
The 700s wrap the north, east and south sides at the top of the bowl. The rake is steep, so each row clears the one in front of it, and the roof covers this level well. In storm season that makes the upper tier the driest place in the building.
It's a long way up, and the climb is the main complaint Stadium Journey heard about the higher levels. A Tripadvisor regular who'd seen Coldplay, U2 and Bon Jovi here put it simply: "the higher you go the smaller the ground," and anyone with vertigo should stay low. Touring productions bring their own screens, which helps. At AC/DC, Heavy Mag said the five screens could be seen "as far as the rear seats."
Western Grandstand Upper (Bays 601 to 604 and 638 to 640)
These two small blocks sit directly above the lower bays 301 to 305 and 338 to 340, with no middle tier in between. They're shaded by mid-afternoon, which makes them some of the most comfortable upper seats in the bowl for a summer show. Their angle to the stage depends on where the production sets up, so check the event map.
Restricted Bays and the Long View
For end-stage shows, bays behind and beside the stage are either pulled from sale or sold as restricted. One seating guide puts it bluntly: some of the stands behind the stage "have no view." Coldplay's 2016 post-event report logged five complaints about ticketing and sight obstruction, so restricted labels deserve to be taken seriously here. The far end of the bowl is the longest view in the house. You'll watch most of the show on the screens.
Corporate Boxes and Suites
The stadium has 1,500 corporate suite seats and 890 seats in open corporate boxes. A 2015 Ed Sheeran reviewer sitting in one found the open boxes too uncomfortable because no air moved through them.
Accessibility Seating
There are 228 wheelchair positions and 228 escort seats around the bowl, plus five wheelchair-access turnstiles and ten passenger lifts. Accessible seating sits on Level 3, and at concerts there's a field-level platform for wheelchair users inside the GA standing area. Staff walk mobility-impaired patrons to the lifts. Ed Sheeran's 2026 run put Auslan interpreters in front of bay 302 on the Friday. Two Changing Places rooms need an MLAK key, and the venue asks anyone carrying medical items like an EpiPen to fill in its Medical Register Form ahead of time. One 2023 reviewer warned that the rows are tight enough that "everyone in the row has to stand up to let you out."

Getting There
Driving + Parking
Suncorp calls itself a public transport destination, and it means it. There are no public car parks on event days, and a 15-minute limit applies across the Lang Park Traffic Area, about 1.5 km around the stadium, with on-the-spot fines. The post-event reports show how seriously that's enforced: 237 infringements at Coldplay in 2016 and 166 across two Ed Sheeran nights in 2018. Residential streets go permit-only, and the Urban List's 2025 AC/DC guide said CBD and Milton car parks had to be booked in advance. A 2016 Tripadvisor reviewer parked in the CBD and walked 40 to 45 minutes. Venue-approved accessible parking opens with the gates.
Transit
Two train stations serve the stadium. Milton Station is about 700 m away, and the Urban List puts the walk at around 10 minutes. Roma Street Station is about 1 km out, a 15 to 20 minute walk. A Coldplay 2016 fan found her entrance closer to the Hale Street side and thought Roma Street was the easier walk for it. Your concert ticket covers trains and buses from 12 midday on show day for most concerts, but not Airtrain or ferries.
City event shuttles leave from Ann Street stops 7 (near Central) and 12 (City Hall). Translink is explicit that shuttles don't serve Adelaide Street or Roma Street. Suburban shuttles run from Carindale, Chermside, Eight Mile Plains and The Gap, and most drop at the stadium's own bus station at the Milton Road end.
Rideshare
On concert nights the venue says there are no Uber or DiDi drop-offs or pick-ups near the stadium, and you'll walk the last stretch. Blaxland Street was closed to pick-ups at Coldplay in 2016, and traffic officers kept waiting Uber drivers out of it at Ed Sheeran in 2018. The taxi rank sits outside Sports House on Castlemaine Street, at the corner near Caxton Street, and there's a separate accessible taxi zone on the Northern Plaza off Caxton Street. The venue's Getting Here page mentions post-event rideshare pickup zones from September 2026, so check your event page for where they are.
Walking
If you're staying in the CBD, Petrie Terrace, Paddington or Milton, the Urban List's advice is to walk, and with no rideshare allowed near the gates it's hard to argue. The inner suburbs are close enough that the 1 km from Roma Street is the long version.
Getting Out
The venue's reports say crowds took about an hour to clear after Coldplay in 2016 and Ed Sheeran in 2018, and shuttles and extra trains run for an hour after the finish. After Coldplay in 2016, a fan who tried the Normanby busway reported that half the buses drove past full. Coldplay's 2016 taxi queue took until about 12:30am to clear.
Food, Drink, and Merch
Worth Getting
The Muster Grill at bay 324 was added in 2024, with an Aussie Works burger, hot honey wings and loaded brisket fries on the menu. Choox at bay 321 does karaage chicken and sticky Korean wings. If you're gluten-free, there's a dedicated kitchen at Aisle 327 with gluten-free pies, nachos and chips. The vegan stand near bay 304 does build-your-own bowls. A July 2025 Tripadvisor reviewer rated the food "pretty good" and the toilets "always clean."
Skip It
Fans have been rough on the basics. A Coldplay 2016 reviewer complained about a burger "with seriously virtually nothing on it" and "machine poured flat beer," and another called the food "full of oil and grease." Prices aren't published, so we're not quoting stale ones. Eat on Caxton Street first if you care about the meal.
The Strategy
Field patrons should use the bars and food in the rear tunnels during a support set, not the concourse upstairs. A 2015 reviewer found the bar queues were the only long ones, while food and toilets moved quickly. Free water is on both plazas, in the field tunnels, at the field barriers and on the Level 3 concourse.
Merch
Outdoor merch opens early. On recent tours the North Plaza stand on Caxton Street opened at 12pm and the South Plaza stand on Milton Road at 2pm, with stands inside on the concourse and field level once gates open. Lady Gaga's tour even ran a North Plaza session the day before the show. At AC/DC in 2025, The Live Wire saw queues pre-show and again at the changeover, so the plaza stands in the early afternoon are the low-stress option.
Venue History
The ground sits on what was the North Brisbane Cemetery, the city's main burial ground until 1875. After the Paddington Cemeteries Act of 1911 the site became a recreation reserve, and it opened in 1914 as Lang Park, named for John Dunmore Lang. It became the home of Queensland rugby league and hosted the first State of Origin match in 1980. That's where The Cauldron nickname comes from. Suncorp has held the naming rights since 1994.
The stadium you'll sit in today dates from a 2003 rebuild that cost about A$280 million and turned the old ground into a 52,500-seat rectangular bowl. It opened in time for the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Floodwater covered the field in the 2011 Brisbane floods. In 2024, 23,000 seats were replaced. Stadiums Queensland owns the venue and Legends Global runs it.
Concerts have grown from occasional to permanent. The venue hosted 41 concerts between 2006 and mid-2025, and after community consultation the Queensland Government made a cap of up to 12 concerts a year permanent from 2025. Ed Sheeran set the attendance record of 59,185 on 18 February 2023 as part of a three-night run, the highest crowd the venue has held because the field was used for standing. Recent years have brought three P!nk nights, Luke Combs, Lady Gaga and two AC/DC shows in December 2025, and IQ Magazine named Suncorp in its first Stadium Stars list in 2025.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, on end-stage shows. Bays behind and beside the stage are pulled from sale or sold restricted, and the far end is the longest view in the bowl. Seat-by-seat detail is in the [Section-by-Section Guide](#section-by-section-guide).
Arrive by gate time, not set time. Gates have opened at 4pm or 5pm on recent tours, with a 10:30pm curfew. Fans at Lady Gaga in 2025 reported queues of over two and a half hours, and a December 2025 reviewer said delayed gate openings made them miss the headliner's entrance.
Bag size and the bag check, every time. Concert guides list 100% bag checks and wanding, A3 as the bag limit, and a long prohibited list that includes GoPros, selfie sticks, tablets and closed umbrellas. The general conditions allow sealed water up to 1.25 litres, but a January 2023 reviewer reported having their water decanted into cups.
It depends on the tour. AC/DC used an end stage with a catwalk in 2025, and Ed Sheeran's 2026 maps put the stage on the field with Front GA and Rear GA zones around it. The venue posts each show's map on the event page.
Yes. Every bar, food outlet and merch stand takes card or phone only.
Yes, through the exit points at the Northern and Southern Plaza ends, where your ticket is scanned out and back in. Recent concert guides don't mention re-entry, so check the event page if you're relying on it.
Not at the stadium. The venue bans rideshare pick-ups nearby on concert nights, so walk toward the city or Paddington before you book (see [Getting There](#getting-there)).
Yes, in a seat. The venue doesn't recommend standing tickets for under-15s, and anyone 14 or under must be with an adult 18 or over. Free child wristbands are handed out at the information desks inside the North and South Gates so you can write your phone number on them, and the Parents Room is near Gate E.
