Your Knebworth Park Concert Guide

What Is It Like to See a Concert at Knebworth Park?

Stevenage, Hertfordshire, UKFestival Grounds125,000 capacity

The field where Oasis played to 125,000 a night in 1996 gets six more nights in 2027. It's a natural bowl in a stately home's deer park, so the crowd rises away from the stage like a grass terrace.

What to Know Before You Go

  • 1
Get off at Stevenage, not Knebworth

The village station is closer on a map and useless on show day, because there's no event access from that side. Stevenage is the station the site is set up for (see [Getting There](#getting-there)).

  • 2
The shuttle doesn't bring you back

At EddFest the Stevenage shuttle ran inbound only, and organisers said it wouldn't run back after the show because of traffic restrictions. Plan to walk out.

  • 3
    Driving is the gamble

The [Oasis](/artists/oasis) promoters are telling people not to drive to the 2027 shows at all, and the car park exit in [Getting Out](#getting-out) is why.

  • 4
    Expect a proper search

EddFest searched everyone at the gates, used live facial recognition, and took digital QR tickets only. Under-16s had to come with an adult aged 18 or over.

  • 5
It's cashless, with no cash machines

Bars and food traders took contactless cards only at EddFest, and the official FAQ said there were no ATMs anywhere on site.

  • 6
A rucksack was fine in 2026

EddFest allowed bags up to rucksack size but banned glass, cans, food, drink, cool bags and flags on poles. A collapsible refillable water bottle was allowed.

  • 7
Each promoter writes its own rules

EddFest let telescopic umbrellas in (lowered during sets) and allowed folding chairs only up to a marked line, while a second official version of the same FAQ said chairs couldn't go in at all. Check your show's own page, not last year's.

  • 8
    Nowhere to leave your stuff

There's no cloakroom and no lockers. Whatever you carry in, you're holding until the encore.

  • 9
    No way back in

Day tickets had no readmission to the arena at EddFest. Campers could move in and out of their campsites on wristbands, but not back into the arena on a day ticket.

What It's Actually Like

The Bowl Does the Work Your Height Can't

The stage goes in at the bottom and the park rises gently away from it, so the people behind you are standing a bit higher than the people in front. Louder Than War called it a "natural bowl" that fills as people drift toward the stage. That's the difference from a flat city park like Finsbury Park, where the ground doesn't rise to help you. The slope won't get you faces from the middle, but it gives you a better shot over the heads in front than flat grass does.

Past 75 Metres, You're Listening to the Delay Towers

The field is deep. For Oasis in 1996, the sound crew put up 11 delay towers in three rings, at 75, 150 and 225 metres from the stage, according to a Sound On Sound feature on the build. That tells you how far back a full crowd runs. Once you're past the first ring, the PA you're hearing is the delay system, and the towers themselves are structures standing in the crowd. Nobody we found complained about sound at the back for the 2026 show, so don't treat distance as a death sentence.

“Crystal clear views to the very back of the colossal field”
— myglobalmind EddFest review, July 2026

Sun Behind the Stage, Grass and Track Under Your Feet

There's no roof and nothing to hide under. At the 2026 show the headliner was silhouetted against the setting sun, per At The Barrier, so that night the crowd faced straight into the low sun. EddFest in July 2026 topped 30 degrees, and one reviewer described "blazing" sun through the support sets. The official FAQ is blunt about the ground: a mix of grass, tracks and permanent paths that "can be uneven" and, depending on the weather, "muddy, dusty or waterlogged." The fan record is kinder. A 2011 review credited the park's drainage with stopping the mud bath that rain usually brings, and a 2014 review said the only real mud was by the toilets.

The Crowd Came for the History

People don't come here because Knebworth is convenient. They come because Queen played their last show with Freddie Mercury on this grass in 1986 and Oasis turned it into a generational landmark ten years later. That weight shows. The 2026 Iron Maiden crowd was "a sea of air punching, chanting converts," per Louder Than War, and the same review noted it pulled in every age group. The 2027 Oasis return is pitched the same way, as unfinished business 31 years on.

Section-by-Section Guide

There are no seats and no section numbers. Each promoter builds a fresh arena in the park, so think of it as zones running back from the stage up the slope of the bowl.

Front Standing Pen

For Oasis in 2027 the area nearest the stage is its own ticket. Front standing is listed at £204 against £171 for general admission, fees included, according to the ticket tiers reported by Rocks Off Mag and Brit Brief. At 125,000 a night that pen is the only place you'll see a face without looking at a screen. It's also inside the first ring of delay towers, so you're hearing the main stacks directly rather than the relay further back.

It wasn't always split this way. EddFest in 2026 and Liam Gallagher in 2022 sold one GA ticket for the whole field, so the front went to whoever got through the gates first. If your show doesn't list a separate front ticket, the front is first come, first served, and gates opened at 1pm for EddFest and 11am for Liam.

Who it's for: the people who need to be close and will stand for hours to stay there.

Main Field, Between the First and Second Delay Rings

This is the best value in the park. You've paid GA money, the stage still reads as a stage rather than a postage stamp, and the bowl's gentle rise is starting to help you see over the crowd. You can also drift sideways along the slope to find a gap, which you can't do in the pen.

On the 1996 build this zone started at the first ring of delay towers, 75 metres out, which is where the main stacks hand over to the relay. Tower positions are set per show, so the rings won't sit in exactly the same place every time, but the depth of the field doesn't change.

Back of the Bowl and the Chair Line

From around 150 metres back you're watching the screens for detail, and at a sell-out the crowd runs past the 225-metre ring the 1996 crew planned for. That's not as grim as it sounds. One 2026 reviewer said the views held up right to the back of the field and singled out the video screens, and the EddFest stage had huge screens built into its back wall.

The back is where chairs live when a promoter allows them, behind the marked line covered in What to Know.

Best for: anyone who wants to sit between sets where chairs are allowed, and anyone who'd rather have room around them than a view of faces.

Accessible Platform and Rear Grandstands

EddFest ran a wheelchair viewing platform, with proof of disability arranged through the ticket seller, plus a separate soft viewing area for people who can't stand for long. Free essential-companion tickets and BSL interpretation were available on request, and there were accessible toilets at several points around the arena.

Oasis in 2027 goes bigger. The promoter says it's building Knebworth's largest accessible viewing platform, ramped and facing the stage directly, in front of three rear-of-arena grandstands with reserved seating and hospitality access. Those grandstands are the only seats in the park and they're at the back of the field, so seated here means far away.

One catch from 2026: accessible parking was only for people who'd bought accessible camping, and Blue Badge parking applications closed well before the show. Sort parking at the same time as the ticket.

No fan reviews of the view from either the platform or the grandstands turned up in our research, so we can't tell you how they hold up when the field fills.

Campsites and the VIP Barns

Camping turns a one-day show into a weekend. EddFest campsites opened at noon on Friday and had to be clear by noon Sunday. There were no showers, no generators and no open fires, and you couldn't sleep in a tent in the campervan field. For Oasis in 2027 the promoter sells a £60 Campsite Village ticket for the Saturday shows only, covering a pitch, parking and walk-through access to the arena.

Drinking rules split between the two zones. You could drink your own in the campsite at EddFest, decanted out of glass, but you couldn't carry alcohol from the campsite into the arena.

VIP at EddFest ran out of the Knebworth Barns, open 11am to 1am, with its own entry, drink and food tokens, and parties before and after the headline set. It's under a roof, in the estate's old barns.

Coach Drop and the Walk-Out Edge

For Oasis in 2027, coaches run from more than 120 UK pickup points in three price zones and drop about five minutes from the arena, according to the promoter. Coach packages are listed at £240 to £293 including the concert ticket.

The promoter calls it "the biggest movement of fans by coach to a single live event ever seen in the UK," which gives you a sense of how hard it's pushing people out of cars.

Getting There

Driving + Parking

Every car park space is pre-booked, and the 2026 FAQ didn't publish an open price, so check your show's ticket page. Coming up the A1(M), northbound traffic exits at Junction 7 and southbound traffic exits at Junction 8 onto the B656. Arriving is its own ordeal on a sell-out. One fan reported spending almost four hours queuing on the A1(M) to get into the car park in 2026, and The Comet reported bumper-to-bumper queues between Junctions 5 and 7 before Liam Gallagher in 2022. The car parks are grass fields, and a 2014 review complained of uncut grass and "no lights in some areas" when it came to finding the car again.

Transit

Take the train to Stevenage, which is just over 20 minutes from London on the fastest services, per Time Out. Don't go to Knebworth station. There's no event access from the village, and stewards send anyone walking down Old Knebworth Lane or the B656 back round to Junction 7. From Stevenage you walk about 1.5 miles, roughly 30 minutes, crossing the Junction 7 roundabout on the pedestrian walkway. At EddFest a shuttle ran from the station from noon to 6pm on the Saturday for about £6 one way, inbound only.

Late trains depend on the show. For Oasis in 2027 the promoter has announced direct trains from Stevenage to London King's Cross from 11:30pm to 1:30am at £10 one way, with a stewarded, lit walking route to the station. In 2022, Festival Republic warned that trains after the show were very limited and not guaranteed, so don't assume the Oasis trains are standard for every gig.

Rideshare and Coach

There's an on-site taxi rank (Boxall Taxis ran it in 2026) and a dedicated Uber pick-up and drop-off area. The organisers say it's unsafe to try to get collected from any of the surrounding roads. For EddFest, Big Green Coach ran 86 UK pickup points for day visitors and 42 for campers. The Oasis 2027 coach plan is in the Section-by-Section Guide.

Getting Out

Fans reported three to five hours to clear the car parks after EddFest in 2026. It's a pattern across shows based on fan reports, going back to a 2014 reviewer who said it took "ages" to find and move the car with staff mostly gone, and The Comet reported the 2026 traffic and parking was being investigated. On foot, the Junction 7 walkway back to Stevenage is the way out, and for Oasis in 2027 coach passengers get a one-hour boarding window with food, bars and toilets kept open.

Food, Drink, and Merch

What's on Offer

The food is whatever the promoter brings in, so it changes show to show. EddFest's official line was vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and halal options across the site. Iron Maiden brought its own Trooper beer and an "Eddie's Dive Bar," which tells you how much the bar offer follows the headliner. At EddFest one reviewer described "remarkably short bar queues," though that's one show and one bar operator. We don't have a current pint or food price to give you, and older figures from the Sonisphere years are too stale to trust.

The Rules That Catch People

Bars ran a Challenge 25 policy at EddFest, so carry ID if there's any chance you look under 25. Free water points ran across the site, and they're the thing to plan around on a hot day, since an empty collapsible bottle was allowed in.

Merch

Merch here is a tour operation, not a venue one. There's no Knebworth-branded merch to speak of. EddFest had several merch outlets plus a marketplace called Eddie's Emporium, and what's on sale follows the headliner, same as the beer.

Venue History

Rock at Knebworth started in July 1974, when the Allman Brothers Band and the Doobie Brothers played to 60,000 in the grounds of Knebworth House, the Lytton family seat north of London. Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and Genesis followed in the 1970s. Led Zeppelin played two shows in 1979, officially 109,000 people though crowd claims ran past 200,000. They were the band's last UK shows with John Bonham.

On 9 August 1986, Queen played their last concert with Freddie Mercury here, officially to 120,000. The 1990 Silver Clef show brought Pink Floyd, Genesis, Paul McCartney and Dire Straits together for another 120,000. Then on 10 and 11 August 1996, Oasis played to 125,000 a night, around 250,000 across the weekend, with more than 2% of the UK population trying for tickets. Robbie Williams topped that in 2003 with three nights and more than 375,000 people. Oasis didn't come back for 31 years, and that gap is the whole pitch for 2027.

The site became a festival ground for Sonisphere in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014, with Metallica, Iron Maiden and Rammstein at the top of the bills. Liam Gallagher brought it back to one-act scale in June 2022 with two nights, about 170,000 people in total, filmed for the cinema release Knebworth 22. Some sources put that at 100,000 a night, but the 170,000 figure is the one tied to the film.

Iron Maiden's EddFest in July 2026 was a single-band weekend with campers on the Friday and the full show on the Saturday. In August 2026, North Hertfordshire Council granted SJM Concerts a premises licence for crowds up to 125,000, and Oasis then announced Knebworth for September 2027, first four nights and then six.

Frequently Asked Questions

Earlier than you think, because the delay is on the road and not at the gate. Gates opened at 1pm for EddFest in 2026 and 11am for Liam Gallagher in 2022, both with a 10:30pm finish. If you're driving, one 2026 fan reported almost four hours in the queue to get into the car park.

Yes, the concerts happen in the park around the House, which is the Lytton family's stately home. For satnav the postcode is SG1 2AX. It's a Stevenage postcode, which is a decent hint about which station you'll want.

Only for the Saturday shows, going by the promoter's plan, and it's a £60 Campsite Village ticket rather than a pitch you can turn up for. What's included is in the [Section-by-Section Guide](#section-by-section-guide).
