What Is It Like to See The Amity Affliction Live?
Joel Birch screams about depression, stops to tell the room how many years he has been sober, then orders the pit to split down the middle. Queensland metalcore where the wall of death and the group therapy happen in the same hour.
What to Know Before You Go
- 1It's a four-band bill.
Nobody on the House of Cards Tour 2026 is a throwaway support act, so if you only turn up for the headliner you'll miss most of the night.
- 2Know your openers.
Europe and UK dates: Silent Planet, Varials and Orthodox. North America in November: blessthefall, Orthodox and Buried in Spring.
- 3Pick a side for the vote.
Mid-set, the crowd chooses between "Open Letter" and "Chasing Ghosts." Decide which one you're shouting for before you get there.
- 4Watch for the split.
When Birch asks the room to open up, a wall of death follows. If you don't want in, move to the edge before he finishes the sentence.
- 5Learn two choruses.
"Pittsburgh" and "Soak Me in Bleach" are the songs the whole room knows. Everything else is a bonus.
- 6The talking isn't filler.
Birch speaks openly about relapse, recovery and his father's sobriety. People in this crowd came for exactly that, so don't talk over it.
- 7"Death's Hand" is the big pit.
That's the song where the circle opens widest. Plan your position around it.
- 8The tour shirt isn't venue-only.
The 2026 Australian tour designs went up on the official web store, so you don't have to fight for one at the stall.

What It's Actually Like
"Pittsburgh" In, "Soak Me in Bleach" Out
You can set your watch by the bookends. "Pittsburgh" is the most-played song of their career, logged 700 times on setlist.fm, and it opened every documented European date in September 2026. "Soak Me in Bleach" closes. It ended the set at SWX Bristol in January 2023, at the Hordern Pavilion in November 2024, and it was the encore at Schlachthof Wiesbaden on 18 September 2026. Even when they're the support act it goes last: on the 2025 Parkway Drive arena run it finished their slot with an extended drum solo tacked on. The practical upshot is simple. If you're only going to shout two choruses, shout those two.
The Circle Opens Widest for "Death's Hand"
This is a crowd that moves. At the Riverstage in Brisbane on 28 June 2017, about 6,000 people turned up and the pit during "Death's Hand" stretched roughly 15 metres across, according to AAA Backstage. At The Shed on the Sunshine Coast in February 2026 the crowd was a "bouncing mass of energy," with crowd surfers keeping security busy all night. Seats don't stop it either. On the 2025 Summer of Loud amphitheatre run, bassist Jonny Reeves noticed circle pits breaking out in the general admission sections right in front of the seated ones. If you're on the floor, you are in it.
“That's the human response that I live for. That gives me purpose.”
Birch Talks About the Stuff the Songs Are About
The songs are about depression, anxiety and drinking, and Birch doesn't pretend otherwise between them. At Concord Music Hall on 29 May 2024, after "My Father's Son," he told the crowd he'd written it shortly before meeting his father, "and he just celebrated 20 years sober yesterday." Then he walked through his own relapses before saying "now I'm 8 years sober... If you're struggling, it is not the fucking end of the day. Keep thriving." The room goes quiet for these bits. Fans treat it as part of the set: a Bandsintown reviewer at the Garden City, Idaho show in May 2026 wrote that the band's music "is a huge part of my sobriety journey," and she got to tell them so. It's the thing that separates an Amity night from a metalcore night.
Two Voices, and One of Them Is New
Birch screams. The clean choruses belong to whoever is playing bass, and for two decades that was co-founder Ahren Stringer. Since 2025 it's Jonny Reeves. The first Australian audiences to hear him, on the 2026 regional run, got a straight verdict from The Note's review of the Bridgeway Hotel show in Adelaide on 21 March 2026: "It would be hard to tell the difference between Ahren and Reeves when blindfolded." So if you grew up on the old records, the hooks still land where you expect them. Just don't expect Stringer's face on the big screen.
People Come Back, and Some of Them Cry
This is catharsis more than party. At the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on 11 November 2024, the band asked who had also been at the Hordern two nights earlier and nearly every hand at the barrier went up. Backseat Mafia's reviewer watched fans crying in the pit between bouts of shoving, and summed it up: "For many fans, Amity isn't just a band, it's a commitment." A Bandsintown reviewer at a 2023 US show put it more bluntly: "I will ALWAYS go see TAA when they're in the states." Expect a room full of people who've been before and who know every word of "Open Letter."
House of Cards Tour 2026 (2026)
The tour behind their ninth album, House of Cards (released 24 April 2026), runs through Germany, Scandinavia, Central Europe, France, the Benelux and the UK from 18 September to 13 October 2026, then North America from Halloween night at Bogart's in Cincinnati to 28 November. It wraps at home with the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on 12 December and the Hellbound Cruise out of Sydney in January 2027. Rooms are theatres and big clubs: 013 in Tilburg, Élysée Montmartre, and Grosse Freiheit 36 on the Reeperbahn.
New Songs Up Front, the Classics Held Back
The European set is built backwards from what you'd guess. After "Pittsburgh," the new record takes over early: "Bleed," "Heaven Sent" and the title track all land in the first seven songs. The older material stacks up in the back half, "All Fucked Up," "Death's Hand" and "All That I Remember" leading into the closer. setlist.fm shows the same 15-song running order at Wiesbaden and at Rockefeller Music Hall on 26 September, so what one city got is close to what the next one gets. If you came for Let the Ocean Take Me, be patient.
No Frills, Just the Band
Don't expect the fire. The 2024 anniversary shows had flames "raining down throughout the set" at the Hordern; the 2026 regional Australian run was described by Music Kingdom Australia as "no big production or gimmicks." Fans didn't seem to mind: a Geelong attendee in March 2026 said "the sound system was next level, every lyric hit hard and clean, and the lighting setup was insane." It's a lights-and-volume show in theatres, not an arena spectacle.
“That's the human response that I live for. That gives me purpose.”
The Lineup Is Still Settling
Drummer Joe Longobardi announced on 24 June 2026 that he was leaving "after 8 years," and the band had not publicly named a permanent replacement in anything we could find. Guitarist Dan Brown, in the band since 2013, is now the longest-serving player next to Birch. Take the drum stool as a work in progress and don't be surprised by an unfamiliar face behind the kit.
Earlier in 2026
The same album cycle already ran a 21-date regional Australian tour (February to March, with In Hearts Wake), a co-headline with August Burns Red across North America (April to May, the Spring Horizons Tour) and a Latin American leg. At The Shed on 13 February, four House of Cards songs made their live debuts, and Birch brought his son on stage during the encore for his 10th birthday. Birch on why they keep playing small towns: "We're a regional band... When you go there, it means more."

What's Exclusive
Tour runs get their own designs. For the 2026 Australian tour that meant a Mermaid tee, a Bleed Reaper tee, an AMITY tour hoodie, an "I'm Not Waiting" long-sleeve, an AMITY cap, a wall flag, a Mermaid tote and a stubby holder. The catch, in your favour: those tour items were also listed on Milestone Merch, the official Australian store linked from the band's site. There's also an exclusive blood-red glitter pressing of the House of Cards LP there.
The Strategy
Because the tour designs show up on the official web stores, the merch stall is optional rather than urgent. If you want the design without the wait, check Milestone Merch (Australia), the Pure Noise store (US) or Impericon (Europe) after the show.

Frequently Asked Questions
Loud, sweaty and more emotional than you'd guess from the screaming. Joel Birch alternates between orders for the pit and stories about his own recovery, and the crowd treats both as part of the show. Much of the room has seen them before and knows every word of "Open Letter."
Their headline set runs 1h 15m to 1h 20m on the House of Cards Tour 2026, per setlist.fm timings. With three support acts, you're in the building far longer than that.
On the European leg they came on 3h 25m to 3h 50m after doors, according to setlist.fm: 8:50 pm after 5 pm doors in Wiesbaden and Hamburg, 9:25 pm after 6 pm doors at Rockefeller Music Hall. Plan dinner and transport home around a late start.
Yes, and the reviews are unusually consistent about it. The Pit Magazine's reviewer in Nebraska in May 2026 said "the band sounded tight and polished," and a fan at a June 2026 show in Mexico wrote on Bandsintown "It's always worth seeing them live." It is also a tight, short set with no dead air between songs.
If you're in it for the room, yes; if you're in it for setlist surprises, less so. The running order barely changes across a tour, but repeat attendance is the norm: at the Enmore in 2024, nearly everyone at the barrier had also been at the Hordern show two nights before.
"Pittsburgh," "Soak Me in Bleach," "Death's Hand," "Drag the Lake" and "All Fucked Up" are the safe bets. "Pittsburgh" alone has been played 700 times, per setlist.fm.
The 2024 shows played *Let the Ocean Take Me* in full, start to finish, before the encore. The 2026 shows are album-cycle sets that front-load *House of Cards* songs. See the Tour History above for the full run-down.
A little. "Youngbloods" came back into the set at The Shed on the Sunshine Coast on 13 February 2026 for the first time since 2022, according to setlist.fm. The bulk of the set is from 2014 onward.
