Brent Smith will stop a pyro-soaked arena show to make you shake hands with the stranger next to you, and roughly 80 percent of the room actually does it. Then the fire comes back.
What to Know Before You Go

At every show, Smith tells the crowd to turn left and right, shake hands with someone they have never met, and say it is nice to meet them. He learned it from church, and it works. Just do it.

At the [Nashville](/cities/nashville) stop in May 2025 the band added an unplanned stripped-down "Get Up" as a dedication to a terminally ill fan named Jace, and in Salt Lake City they read out a newlywed couple, a 100th-show fan, and a college-bound kid from the stage.

The show opens with TV Guy, a suited mascot with a television for a head, dancing to Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" while the screens channel-surf. Miss the doors math and you miss the bit.

"Safe and Sound" opens and "Cut the Cord" has been closing Act II nights, but the middle changes show to show: Tampa got a "The Boys of Summer" cover and the rarity "Atlas Falls," Biloxi got "Fly From the Inside," Hershey got "Devour" (setlist.fm, May-June 2026).

The "Three Six Five" segment pairs a spoken grief monologue with a slideshow of the band members' own lost loved ones. It is the emotional center of the night, and the people around you will be wiping their eyes.

The band plays a multi-song acoustic block out there on a B-stage (piano, compact drumkit, acoustic guitar, spinning disco ball overhead). It is the best spot in the house for that stretch.

Flames fire from the front and back of the stage and rain sparks from above. Front rows center feel the heat all night.

What It's Actually Like
The Handshake Is Not Optional
Somewhere in the first half of the night, Smith stops everything and tells you to look left, look right, and shake hands with the strangers next to you. He has explained that he borrowed the icebreaker from church, and that about 80 percent of the room goes along with it wherever they play (AllMusic interview). It sounds corny until you are standing there doing it, and then the rest of the show feels different, because you are now surrounded by people you have technically met. A Mayhem Music Magazine reviewer opened a 2025 writeup by calling a Shinedown show "more than a concert but a gathering of newly acquainted friends as we all come to share the experience." That is the design, and it lands.
Brent Preaches, Then The Stage Catches Fire
Shinedown builds spoken segments into the set the way other bands build guitar solos. Smith works the crowd for minutes at a time, reminds the pit "If you ain't happy, no one is happy," and closes nights with "Thank you for trusting us" (Utah Concert Review, Maverik Center, August 2025). He also polices the room: he has stopped songs and physically gone into the crowd to break up fights (Loudwire). Then the sermon ends and the production detonates. At the 2025 Salt Lake City opener, "pyro rained from above, flames surged from both the front and back of the stage, sparks arced overhead" before the band had played a note, and during the big crowd moments the flames shot so high "it looked like the band was playing inside a firestorm" (Utah Concert Review).

Your Sign Might Change The Setlist
The band reads the room, literally. At the May 10, 2025 show at Bridgestone Arena, "Get Up" was not on the setlist; the band added it at the last moment as a stripped-down dedication to Jace, a terminally ill fan who wanted to hear it live (Mayhem Music Magazine). Three months later in Salt Lake City, the mid-show acoustic block paused while Smith acknowledged a newlywed couple, a fan at their 100th Shinedown concert, and a soon-to-be college freshman, all from handmade signs (Utah Concert Review). The lesson: cardboard and a marker are a real ticket to a moment at this show.
"Simple Man" Belongs To Everyone
The Lynyrd Skynyrd cover from their early Jacksonville days has become "a staple to most of their shows" (Mayhem Music Magazine), and it works as the night's communal handoff. On the 2022 Planet Zero run, Smith brought opener Jelly Roll out to sing it with the whole building (100% Rock Magazine). In Pittsburgh on July 22, 2025, the day Ozzy Osbourne died, Zach Myers folded a snippet of "Mama, I'm Coming Home" into it while Bush and Morgan Wade ran their own tributes earlier in the night (Empire Extreme). Whatever the moment demands, this is the song that absorbs it.
All Ages, No Pits, Every Word Sung
"People of all ages filled the audience" is how Utah Concert Review described the 2025 crowd, and Bandsintown fan reviews back it up with parents who started bringing kids at age 8. This is not a mosh crowd. The floor jumps and sings; the physical peak is coordinated, not chaotic. Barry Kerch anchors the drums and hurls sticks into the crowd, while Myers and Eric Bass work the catwalks and lean into the pit (Utah Concert Review). First-timer reviews on Bandsintown run in the vein of "This was my first time to see you guys as a headliner and it was worth it!" and "If you're not a fan, you will be by the end of the concert."
Dance, Kid, Dance Act II World Tour (2026)
54 dates across 11 countries, May 13 in Green Bay through late November with two closing nights at Dublin's 3Olympia Theatre, behind the album Ei8ht, released May 29, 2026 (Loudwire). The North American arena leg runs through August, Australia and New Zealand follow in September with Bush, and the UK/Europe leg opens October 31 in Paris and hits OVO Arena Wembley and Manchester's AO Arena in November. Doors run 5:30 to 6:00 PM, openers start at 7:00, and Shinedown walks on between 9:00 and 9:15 PM for just about two hours (setlist.fm set times: 9:10 PM in Hershey and Norfolk, 9:15 to 11:15 PM in Biloxi and Tampa).
TV Guy Survived Into Act II
The television-headed mascot who opened the 2025 shows is still on the payroll. "Sledgehammer" is logged in the opening slot at multiple 2026 stops before "Safe and Sound" kicks the set off (setlist.fm, Hershey and Biloxi, June 2026). On the 2025 leg the bit ran deeper: handlers in black escorted TV Guy out while his screen and the backdrop flipped through clips from Sanford & Son to Stranger Things, and a hype figure in a pink ski mask worked the crowd (Mayhem Music Magazine, Utah Concert Review). It is a weird, committed piece of theater from a band with zero costume changes otherwise.
A Rotating Setlist Built From 20 Number Ones
Shinedown is the first act in history with 20 No. 1s on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart ("Dance, Kid, Dance" hit the milestone in March 2025, ahead of Three Days Grace's 18), which is why the rotating setlist works: the bench is nothing but hits (Billboard). "Safe and Sound" opens and "Cut the Cord" closes, with "Diamond Eyes," "Three Six Five," "Devil," "Enemies," "Call Me," "A Symptom of Being Human," and "Monsters" as recurring fixtures. The middle is the gamble. The Production Carried Over From 2025
The Dance, Kid, Dance staging that Act II extends was built around reach: extended platforms and a catwalk pushing Smith, Myers, and Bass into the pit, two suspended disco balls, X-shaped light bars over the GA floor, and cameras mounted on mic stands feeding close-ups to the screens (Utah Concert Review, Mayhem Music Magazine, 2025 leg). The signature stretch is the full-band move to the mid-floor B-stage: Kerch on a compact kit, Bass on piano, Myers on acoustic, with "Through the Ghost" under the disco ball described as "almost cinematic" (Utah Concert Review). On the 2025 leg the band also announced nightly that $1 per ticket went to Musicians On Call, the nonprofit bringing live music to hospital patients.
The Tour Ends At Their Own Beach Party
Between the North American and European legs sits the first-ever Lunatic Ball Beach Weekend, October 23 to 25, 2026 at Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida: three nights of 5 to 10 PM sets with a hand-picked bill (Bush, Flyleaf with Lacey Sturm, Living Colour, Hanson, From Ashes to New) sold as a resort vacation with lodging tiers, and the Sunset Suites tier sold out first (Loudwire, shinedownlunaticball.com). The name comes from the "welcome to the Lunatic Ball" line the crowd shouts in "Devil."
