What Is It Like to See Nessa Barrett Live?
A pit full of cowboy hats, white roses raised for the best friend she lost, and a 4'11" singer who once dropped off the stage at the Aragon to sing "god's favorite" from inside the crowd.
What to Know Before You Go
- 1Wear the hat.
Cowboy hats are the closest thing her fans have to a uniform: pink ones at the [Aragon Ballroom](/venues/aragon-ballroom) in 2023, bedazzled ones at The Eastern, homemade ones handed up to her at Heaven in [London](/cities/london).
- 2Bring a white rose for "die first."
It's the song for her late best friend Cooper Noriega, and fans hold roses up through it. In 2025 it moved to the encore.
- 3Phone light up for "gaslight."
It's her most-played song, and she's said it's the one where everyone's flashlights come on and she feels connected to the whole room.
- 4Learn the new stuff.
Her crowds know songs on release day: at Bogart's in Cincinnati in February 2025 they sang four deluxe tracks that had been out for hours. Her September 2026 London club show was mostly *Jesus loves a primadonna* and *Tough Love*.
- 5Openers
none announced yet for the 2027 Tough Love Tour. On [The Neighbourhood](/artists/the-neighbourhood)'s arena dates she's the support act herself, with Noise Dept. opening in Europe.
- 6Look out for each other up front.
She has paused and restarted songs when the pit got into trouble, and at the Aragon in 2023 four people fainted before doors after an all-day line in 20-degree cold.
- 7Check the dress code for special runs.
Her April 2026 intimate shows were black tie, with staff in white gloves and a string quartet before she came on.

What It's Actually Like
She Comes Down Off the Stage to Find You
The stage doesn't keep her. At the Aragon Ballroom on March 13, 2023, the lights went out during "god's favorite" and she reappeared down in the crowd, singing a slowed, stripped-back version while holding fans' hands as phone lights swayed around her. A student reviewer standing a few feet away said she was hard to even spot, because she's tiny. At San Jose Civic that November she sang "lovebomb" acoustically from the front of the pit. At the Fonda Theatre she sat on the lip of the stage to talk, and at The Eastern in February 2023 she did the same to thank the front rows for their strength.
The Speech About Saving Each Other
There's a stretch of the night where she stops and talks about her own mental health, and it lands differently than standard stage banter. At the Fonda on March 21, 2023 she flipped the fans' line about her saving their lives back at them. At the Aragon that month the speech ran about three minutes. People bring that energy back to her: a sign at an October 2023 show read "You saved me Ness." The AFTERCARE shows ended on the title track with a message to take care of yourself. It's earnest, and her crowd wants it that way.
“I talked to a lot of you guys before the show and you said I saved your life, but you saved mine.”
"die first" Is the Song That Stops the Room
"die first" was written for her best friend Cooper Noriega, who died in 2022, and it was in every full headline tour from 2023 through 2025. At the Aragon in 2023 it opened with a recording of her voice ending "Love you, Coop," and she stopped singing for a whole verse while the crowd carried it. A PopEntertainment reviewer at the March 2, 2023 show said she got teary-eyed and called it one of the most emotional performances she'd ever seen. By 2025 it had moved into a three-song encore, so it's one of the last things you hear.
She'll Stop a Song if the Pit Is in Trouble
Her crowd skews young and packs the barrier hard. At Roadrunner on February 20, 2025 the show paused several times for crowd problems, and she kept checking in with "Are we okay?" At Margaret Court Arena on December 9, 2025 she restarted "the one that should've got away" after the first chorus to deal with something in the crowd. She called her first tour "a safe space," and she runs the pit like she meant it.
A Soft Voice That People Argue About
Her voice is small and breathy, and how it lands depends on the mix. Fans of it point to the slower songs: at San Jose in 2023 the band pulled the drums and guitar down for "plane to paris" so she could carry it, and a Harvard Crimson reviewer in 2025 said she can "sing in cursive" on "KEEP YOUR EYES ON ME BOY." The other side is real too. At The Eastern in February 2023, an Emory Wheel reviewer said the drums sometimes drowned her out and her words got lost, and two student reviewers in San Jose found her stage presence "gentle but weak."
Portishead in the Middle of a Pop Show
Covers aren't a gimmick here. setlist.fm counts 86 cover performances, and Portishead's "Glory Box" alone accounts for 47 of them. It sat in the main set at The Wiltern in March 2025, at the London Forum in June and at Margaret Court Arena in December, and it was still in her 11-song support set at Accor Arena in September 2026. In 2023 the cover slot belonged to Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," and on the fall 2023 run it was Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." Expect one cover, and expect it to be a strange, good one.
Tough Love Tour (2027)
Her third album, Tough Love, came out September 25, 2026, and four days later she announced the tour's UK and European leg: 16 dates in academies and halls, opening in Ireland and running through the UK in early March, then across mainland Europe to Velký sál Lucerna in Prague on March 25, 2027. Her own announcement: "THE TOUGH LOVE TOUR xx can't wait to see all my bats in europe." No North American headline dates have been announced.
What the London Club Show Previewed
The closest preview is a one-off club show at Village Underground in London on September 6, 2026, squeezed between arena support dates. It ran 17 songs: seven from Jesus loves a primadonna, four from Tough Love (including live debuts of "Dracula" and the title track), and just two each from AFTERCARE, hell is a teenage girl and young forever. "gaslight," "lucky star" and "the one that should've got away" survived. The AFTERCARE bookends, "S.L.U.T." and "P*RNSTAR," didn't. It closed on "Buffalo 66." If you only know the 2025 show, do your homework.
No Opener Named Yet
As of October 2026 no support act has been announced for any Tough Love date. On her last headline run the openers were worth catching: Ari Abdul in the US, Sombr in London and Thomas Day in Australia.
First, Arena Support for The Neighbourhood
Before the tour starts she's playing the support slot on The Neighbourhood's arena tour, which ran through Europe from August 24 to September 12, 2026 and hits North American arenas from November 10 to December 4. That's a short set, not her show: 11 songs at Accor Arena on September 8, 2026, opening with "West Coast Prayer," with "Glory Box" and the then-unreleased "Dracula" in the middle and "P*RNSTAR" to close. No encore.
The Intimate Shows Changed the Tone
The April 2026 run of five intimate shows, in a Masonic lodge at Hollywood Forever, Thalia Hall, St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church and the Winter Garden Theatre, was the strangest thing she's done live. At Thalia Hall it was a "black-tie affair": staff in tuxedos and white gloves handed out scrolls, a string quartet played pop covers before she came on ("Pink Pony Club" got the loudest cheer), two men escorted her to the stage, and she gave dramatic readings of the new songs under plain white light. The crowd came in silk and lace. Whether any of that theater makes it onto the Tough Love stage hasn't been announced.

Merch
Nobody has published prices or quality notes for her tour merch, so we won't guess. What's on record are the slogan pieces. On the 2025 AFTERCARE run, the Cincinnati table had a tee reading "bad b*tches love aftercare" with the tour dates on the back and a tank top reading "HOT GIRLS HEART NESSA BARRETT." In 2023 the standout was a white "Young Forever" football jersey with black angel wings on the back, which she wore onstage herself at The Eastern.

Frequently Asked Questions
It's a short, emotional pop show with a very young, very devoted crowd. Expect a mental-health speech, a Portishead cover, and "die first," the song for her late best friend.
Her headline set runs 1h 15m to 1h 30m. setlist.fm users log her at 9:00 PM to 10:15 PM at Margaret Court Arena in December 2025.
Black, with some sparkle. A February 2023 reviewer described teen fans in black and pink leather and sparkly tights, and a 2025 London reviewer saw friend groups in Nessa-inspired outfits.
Mostly the newest record, with a handful of older songs that never leave. On the 2025 tour the bulk was *AFTERCARE*, with "gaslight," "dying on the inside" and "heartbreak in the hamptons" from before. In September 2026 the set flipped mostly to the two newest releases.
Mostly yes. Reviewers praise her on the ballads, but at a February 2023 show the drums sometimes drowned her soft voice, so the mix matters more for her than for a belter.
Yes, if you're a fan of the songs. It's short and the staging is simple, but the crowd rituals, the speech and "die first" make it feel more personal than most pop shows at this size.
"gaslight" is her most-played song, at 87 performances on setlist.fm. "die first" is the emotional peak, and "P*RNSTAR" closed the encore in London and at Margaret Court Arena in 2025.
The songs have. Most 2025 shows opened with "S.L.U.T." and leaned on *AFTERCARE*, while her September 2026 London preview dropped both bookends for *Jesus loves a primadonna* and *Tough Love* material. Staging hasn't been announced.
Not much between songs, but there's one long moment. A Cincinnati reviewer in 2025 noted little chatter apart from thanks, while her mental-health speech at the Aragon in March 2023 ran about three minutes.
