What Is It Like to See Carly Rae Jepsen Live?
A saxophone blast kicks off "Run Away With Me," a room full of people who know every B-side out-sings her, and the night ends with fans passing toy swords to the stage.
What to Know Before You Go
- 1Bring a toy sword
Inflatable and plastic swords get passed to the stage during "Cut to the Feeling," the closer, and she dances with whatever reaches her. The full origin story is in [Fan Culture](#fan-culture-and-traditions).
- 2Do not miss the sax
"Run Away With Me" usually lands in the first few songs, and Jared Manierka's saxophone intro is the moment the whole floor goes up at once. Time your bar run for later.
- 3"Call Me Maybe" is not the encore
On recent tours it comes early or mid-set. Plan your arrival around the start of her set, not around the hit.
- 4Do your E•MO•TION homework
This crowd knows "Want You in My Room," "Boy Problems," and "When I Needed You" better than the radio singles. If you only know two songs, spend a week with E•MO•TION and Dedicated before the show.
- 5Be ready to carry a verse
She turns the mic to the crowd constantly, and on "When I Needed You" the audience has sung whole verses and choruses without her.
- 6Glitter is the unofficial dress code
Neon, sequins, and glitter filled the floor at the [Aragon Ballroom](/venues/aragon-ballroom) on the 2022 tour, and the UBC show on Halloween weekend 2022 turned into a full costume party.
- 7No 2027 opener announced yet
Past openers were worth catching. Empress Of danced in front of four mirrors on the 2022 North American leg, and Phoebe Ryan opened the 2019 Dedicated Tour.
- 8Expect two crowds in one room
Queer fans in their 20s and 30s who can quote every deep cut stand next to preteens and parents who came for "I Really Like You." Bringing a kid is completely normal here.

What It's Actually Like
The Saxophone Is the Starting Gun
You will know the night has really started when a saxophone cuts through the room. Jared Manierka, her longtime keys and sax player, has been blowing the intro to "Run Away With Me" since the E•MO•TION days: Stereogum noted the sax on stage at Irving Plaza in November 2015, and at the E•MO•TION 10th anniversary show at The Troubadour on August 19, 2025, he opened the night with keyboard trills before launching into that horn line. At Glastonbury in June 2023, Attitude's reviewer said the riff alone got a field of tens of thousands dancing on the Other Stage. It's the third most-played song of her career, 285 logged performances on setlist.fm, and the crowd treats it like a starting pistol.
A Band, Not a Pop Production
On the 2019 and 2022 tours there was no dance troupe at all: a four-piece band and two backup singers carried the show, and the Harvard Crimson's review of her Roadrunner show on September 26, 2022 named them: Manierka, guitarist Tavish Crowe, drummer Nik Pesut, bassist Abe Nouri, and backup vocalists Sophi Bairley and Julia Ross, some of whom have played with her for over a decade. The backup singers do coordinated choreography with her on select songs, and "Want You in My Room" turns into a full routine with her backup singers. BrooklynVegan, reviewing Radio City Music Hall on September 28, 2022, said the setup made the night feel like friends hanging out rather than a tightly scripted pop show. At the Troubadour, the band walked out one player at a time and it felt more like a rock band than a pop singer with hired hands.
“The audience was often louder than Carly.”
She Talks Less and Hands You the Mic More
Don't expect long speeches. Reviewers at Showbox SoDo in October 2022, at UBC the same week, and at the Troubadour in 2025 all noticed the same thing: she says very little between songs. What she does instead is hold the mic out and let you sing the backing vocals, which the Crimson noticed her doing again and again at Roadrunner. At the Aragon in November 2022, the room sang so loudly that ANCHR Magazine's writer could barely hear her from the back. When she does speak, it's short: "I hope you will sing this next song with me," she told Radio City. "It's the law."
The Deep Cuts Are the Point, Mostly
The songs that get the biggest physical reaction are often not the hits. On the 2016 Gimmie Love Tour in Covington, Kentucky, album tracks "Gimmie Love" and "I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance" hit as hard as "Good Time," and most of the room seemed less interested in "Call Me Maybe" than in the E•MO•TION material, per It's All Dead. The Troubadour anniversary night played all 17 deluxe E•MO•TION tracks in order, then B-sides "Store" and "First Time," and the only non-E•MO•TION-era song all night was "Call Me Maybe." There's a minority report, though. At The Sylvee in Madison on November 4, 2022, two weeks after The Loneliest Time came out, the Daily Cardinal wrote that "the audience largely refused to lose themselves in her music," coming alive for "Call Me Maybe" but not for new songs many people didn't know yet. And the biggest hit isn't saved for the end. On the 2022 tour she played "Call Me Maybe" mid-set and walked out into the Radio City crowd during it, at Glastonbury in 2023 it came fourth, and WXPN called her early placement of it in Philadelphia a bold choice.
Two Audiences, One Dance Floor
Look around and you'll see two fanbases sharing the floor. A CBC Arts fan forum put it bluntly: her concerts "are filled with two distinct audiences: preteen girls who want to shout along to 'I Really Like You' and queer people (mostly gay men) in their 20s and 30s who can quote every letter of every song the woman has ever released." Metro Times saw exactly that at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit in March 2016: early-20s men and women screaming alongside 10-year-olds and their parents. At the Troubadour in 2025, one attendee told Variety he was "one of eight straight men" in the room, and a dad brought his daughter on her first day of sixth grade. Nobody is gatekeeping. The kid in the light-up shoes and the guy who flew in for the B-sides are singing the same bridge.
Uncynical Joy, Delivered Gently
The emotional flavor here is safety, not spectacle. The 2022 tour opened with an animated moon telling the room, "I offer you a safe place to feel whatever it is you need to feel," and people took it literally. At Pier 17 in August 2023, a fan blogger's friend said the show "felt safe," and Carly cried mid-song during "Kollage." By "Call Me Maybe" at the Troubadour, Spinning Platters described the room as "a sweat-soaked, dancey mess." You leave lighter, not wrung out.
Day and Night Tour (2027)
26 North American dates, April 15, 2027 in Edmonton to May 29, 2027 in Montreal, promoted by Live Nation, behind Day and Night, her 24-track double album released September 18, 2026 (uDiscover Music; Spin).
Her Biggest Rooms Ever, Plus a Lot of Theaters
This is the tour where she headlines arenas and amphitheaters for the first time: Madison Square Garden on May 15, the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on April 22, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre on April 25. Spin noted her only previous MSG appearance was as Justin Bieber's opener in 2012. Most other nights are theaters and ballrooms like the Orpheum Theatre, The Chicago Theatre, and The Anthem, which is the scale where her shows built their reputation. If you want the version where a theater crowd out-sings her, the theater dates are it. If you want to see whether the sax drop works in an arena, MSG is the experiment.
The New Album's First Outing
The Day and Night material had its live debut at a short-notice Irving Plaza club show in New York on September 27, 2026, booked after a nor'easter canceled her All Things Go headline set (Spin; NY1). She played seven new songs there, including "After All," "On Wires," and "Don't Leave Me on the Dance Floor." The album splits into a '70s psychedelic Day half and a dancefloor Night half (Treble), so expect the new material to swing between swaying and jumping.
VIP and Tickets
VIP packages vary by show and can include premium tickets, access to a merchandise creation station, a tour poster, and an exclusive VIP gift (uDiscover Music). The artist presale opened October 6, 2026 and general on-sale was October 8. No fan verdicts on VIP value exist yet. For scale: Variety reported tens of thousands of fans chasing about 500 tickets for the 2025 Troubadour show, with fake-ticket complaints outside.

The Unofficial Pride Party
PermanentHer shows run as queer celebrations, and fans dress and act accordingly. Sequins, glitter, and full-voice deep cuts are the norm.
"When I Needed You" Is the Crowd's Song
PermanentThe audience takes over the vocals on "When I Needed You," often singing full verses back while she listens.
The Talking Moon

What's Exclusive
The current official line is built around the Day and Night album and the E•MO•TION 10th anniversary, plus fan-culture nods like a Swords Logo crop tank. Everything listed is sold online at carlyraejepsenshop.com, and no source documents venue-only or city-specific items. For the 2027 tour, VIP packages add access to a merchandise creation station and a tour poster (uDiscover Music).
The Strategy
Because the line is online, there's no reason to sprint at doors for sizes. At the 2025 Troubadour show, a strict two-ticket limit meant most people came in pairs, and Spinning Platters saw them split the job: one person in the merch line, the other holding a spot on the floor. That's the move at a small room. No source documents sellouts or restocks.

Frequently Asked Questions
It's a joyful, band-driven pop show where the crowd does a lot of the singing. A four-piece band and two backup singers carry the music, she talks very little between songs, and the night closes with "Cut to the Feeling" and confetti. The room is a mix of queer superfans and families, and it's famously friendly.
Her headline sets run 1h 30m to 1h 40m, typically 23 to 28 songs. The Ubyssey and Spectrum Culture both clocked 2022 shows at about 90 minutes, and her August 8, 2023 Pier 17 set ran a little over an hour and 40 minutes.
She runs to schedule, and no review or fan account describes late starts. At the Greek Theatre on October 18, 2022, opener Empress Of started at 8pm and the lights went down for Carly at 9pm (Annenberg Media).
Yes. Reviewers consistently praise her energy and vocals; the Crimson called her "a joy to watch," and Attitude called her a "polished and dynamic live performer" at Glastonbury. The main dissent on record is the Daily Cardinal's review of a quiet Madison crowd in 2022.
Yes, especially in a theater, where the crowd's singing is half the show. Setlist.fm logs only two shows from her in all of 2026, so the 2027 run is the chance.
Her most-played live songs on setlist.fm are "Call Me Maybe" (365 logged performances), "I Really Like You" (286), "Run Away With Me" (285), "Boy Problems" (217), and the closer "Cut to the Feeling" (204). "Call Me Maybe" is the loudest singalong of the night, even in rooms full of deep-cut obsessives.
Yes. Kids are a normal part of her audience; the [crowd breakdown](#two-audiences-one-dance-floor) above has the details.
Scale and new songs. The So Nice Tour played theaters with a cloud-and-moon set, while Day and Night adds her first headline nights at Madison Square Garden, the Kia Forum, and Red Rocks and brings a 24-track double album into the set.
